collector watches

I just spent the last two afternoons cataloguing 143 watches for a nurse I met while in the hospital last November. She happened to mention to me one day about the watches and I told her I collected watches and I would really like to see them. She finally called me on Thursday to see if I was still interested. Kia yeah!
These watches were in bags, margerine containers and plastic bags. There were Breitling, Gruen, Rolex, Rolex Tudor, Bulova, Mido, Croton, Universal and Omegas to name a few. I was like a kid in a candy store. Apparently he also had 42 guitars that he collected but I haven't seen them yet. We have to determine the price of the watches for the estate, she has 3 other siblings that she is accountable to. I have already indicated to her which watches I am interested in. There were solid gold, rolled gold, gold plate and stainless steel watches.
She told me someone gave her father $10,000 for a group of watches before he died. I would have loved to have seen them. I can't wait. There is probably roughly the same amount of pocket watches that we haven't gone through yet. I don't know too much about those but I am willing to learn.

Hi I own a Longine gold watch, circa 1958, what would be the value of the watch. It keep great time. I also have a Mickey Mouse watch circa 1967 with no band.

I have a thing for watches. I got my first Bulova not too long ago. I happen to look up a Rolex watch and just fell in love with a 28K watch. I could not believe the beauty of the watch.

Nice story, keep us posted on what you see.
Cheers

It'll all be stolen, sooner or later. Accept this bleak prediction, and you'll be feel better when it comes true. The shits who thieve are only shits, after all. Provisional knowledge, depressing as it might be, is more desirable, and to the point, than is "optimistic" nonsense that sets our course in hazardous paths.

What is it with all of the Zombie threads lately? Seriously...this is a one post thread from 4 years ago! How and why did this happen....can the Mods start a WGAS type thread listing all of the Zombie threads that have risen from the near dead in the past 30 days?

It must be my creeping amnesia (or more likely, the overall creepiness of my existence), but I do NOT recall a previous thread knotted around watches, pocket or otherwise. If you really CAN remember one, do tell.

This is hilarious. I was just searching for a thread or section on watches. I love 'em, and would be interested to see what kinds us Camaro guys own.

Ditto here. Post 'em up please

I'll start. I'm pretty bad with my timepieces. They always take a beating. I can safely say that I've never owned a dress watch, save for a really nice 'Replica' Panerai I got as a gift, though I never got a chance to wear it. My favorite watches are Chase Durer, 5.11 Tactical, and my current wear, Suunto. Here's a pic I snapped of my EDC knife and my Suunto Core. If you look close, there's already a scratch on the face.

Anyone here know how to decipher old silversmith markings. I have an old pocket watch that was made somewhere around the late 1700's. There are also several round repair slips stuck in the cover that date back through the 1800's. Would love to be able to figure out more about it, by the markings.

I have an Invicta Corduba, and almost bought another one the other day. It was just too tall. I love big watches, but this thing was pretty crazy.

I'm into the old Lassale watches that Seiko made based on Jean Lassale super thin Swiss movements. It's an interesting venture/story that failed. These were generally $600-800 in the '80's-90's and bring $80-$250 now. This is an example of a couple, but they made hundreds of styles
