Help! How Do I Take the Plastic accents of my steering wheel?

Can anyone tell me what is involved with taking the silver plastic piece that accents the steering wheel off? I want to get this piece painted and then put it back on. It appears that it is all one piece, i'm just not sure how hard it is to get off and am worried about messing around with the steering wheel that close to the airbag. Thanks!

Edit: Would also like to paint the silver trim around the speedo too if anyone can help me out with that.

Speedo trim is very easy! There are threads under the DIY for Dash ABL for that. I painted mine last week.

Do you mean the trim AROUND the steering wheel or the sliver ring around the horn? I have seen that you have to remove the steering wheel air bag first to get to the silver trim.

I'll try to find the threads, but otherwise search in the DIY areas...

EDIT: Speedo Removal thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40804
EDIT: Steering Wheel removal: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53852

If you get the silver trim removed from the steering wheel, please let us know since I want to paint that next! Also, all the vent trim!
Good luck!

I just removed my speedo and painted it inferno orange. came out pretty good. i also painted the 2 small vents on both sides as well. I am trying to remove that ring as well on the sterring wheel but i am scared of the air bag. I am also trying to remove that silver ring around the center vent. I cant seem to get it off.

How did you remove the side vents? I've asked how to remove the vent trim but no one has stepped in :( Still going to try to get the airbag off - need to get a long allen wrench to try.

Thanks Cacadeech. it's Rustoleum metallic black, covered with Rustoleum High gloss sealer.

SSTony, pics? I am going to try to black out most of the interior, but I like the IOM trim

I was referring to the silver plastic around the volume up/down buttons, call buttons, etc. I have seen companies are selling replacements for this that are carbon fiber. That is insane if you have to remove the airbag just for that....

Edit: These are the areas that I am talking about (and the silver plastic on the bottom of the steering wheel that you can't see in this picture. I think it is all one piece)

Very cool looking SSTony!
yes DevilKnightFalcon, that's the trim I thought you meant. From what I've read, take off the airbag/horn, then the trim comes out easily. Again, still need to get the nerve up to do that ;(
