sorry for the delay in replying.

Tman, the camera really does that color no justice! but they look great installed.

Yes, it is about the same as coating a set of wheels, but there is actually more labor in doing brakes properly than in doing wheels. Wheels are more time consuming though.

When I get a set of calipers in for coating, they are completely disassembled, all the pistons, seals and dust boots are cleaned and inspected, replaced as needed, the calipers degreased, media blasted, masked, coated (2-3 coats, depending on color), logos applied, then reassembled and shipped.

I only do exchange on the SS calipers, V6 need to send them in, but turnaround is 2 days if we coordinate when they are coming. Even with shipping both ways, I'm usually quicker than local powdercoaters, and I have done over 2500 sets of calipers in the last 7 years, so I'm more familiar with brakes than the average guy.

V6 calipers are 350,
SS are 300, core charge is 350 for exchange
shipping is 30 either way.

Right now, only 1 set will probably get done on exchange until early May due to my schedule and all sets being out. Wait is probably 4 weeks from now for new people on the list. I have 4 exchange sets. Had 5, but one person decided not to return them.

Also, if you send me a pm and I don't get right back to you, you can try email, mike@thepowdercoater.com or call or text me at 678-357-5844. I'm also a pilot for a major airline and am often travelling out of the country, or just around the country, and when I am in the shop, I'm usually backlogged, so I can't regularly check the forum.

thanks
Mike

Another question for folks. I can do minor mechanical things & I have equipment to bleed brakes - on a scale of 1-10 how hard is replacing the V6 calipers? May change out the rotors at the same time.

This is sooo tempting. Based on times I could be on the list since he will allow for the core charge...
If you can bleed them, its a 2.

I'm putting this down for this fall/winter when the car can sit on stands for a week. Would like to do know but as I posted in another thread the wife's care got rear ended by a non-insured motorist so its hurt my mod money account for a while.

I see no need to try painting the calipers when this is so much better.

Hey mike, what options does the ZL1 decal come in? Is there a site you get them from so I can check them out?

I make them myself. its kind of limitless. I normally have white, silver, red, black yellow orange and blue vinyl in stock, but can get other stuff. Some vinyls can't be clearcoated though, also that depends on what color powder they go on too. Its a case by case thing.

Also, I do have the 4 core sets in, but this is a very busy month for me on the non-powdercoating side of life, so I won't be able to get to them for a little bit. I have a couple half days and one full day in the shop for the rest of the month, so I'm just going to work on prepping them and not notify people until there is only a couple hours work left for coating them

thanks for your patience all! Its also why I've been slow to respond to PMs. May is busy for me too, but not as busy, but June will be back to normal. Its hard having two full time jobs and trying to live a life too

Mike,

When time permits can you give a brief list of those vinyl colors that CANNOT be clear coated? That will probably help me have a color scheme figured out when my set is up.

Mike ! Can you make the painted calipers look like the 1LE calipers, with the logos and all?

like those, yes I can.

As far as clearcoating letters, the basic rule is that reds, oranges and some pigment rich blues, like bentley blue, candy lime green and burple can not clearcoat light colored logos. Black can be clearcoated on any color, although it slighly discolors even on the orange and candy lime green

Hi Mike, I'm new to the Camaro5 forums, but really like your work. Getting the calipers powder coated along with Hawk ceramic pads is my first modification. I have already removed by Calipers and am getting ready to ship them to you. I have a Summit White Camaro 2SS/RS with the Inferno Orange Rally Strips. Have you come up with anyway to do white vinyl on IOM colored calipers? I want the Brembo logo to be permenat (under the clear coat). Can you do two clear coats? (2nd on over the vinyl) Or perhaps double the thickness of the vinyl to prevent bleed-thru? If you cannot do white lettering...can you do silver? The other option I considered is white calipers with IOM Brembo Logo. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!!

No, sorry I have not. With the backlog that I always run on work, I can't really justify the expense and added workload of adding a new line of core calipers.
