Lightbulb People With SuperChips Tuners for the Camaro SS.

Hi Guys.

Well I ordered myself the SuperChips Cortex 2950 Handheld Tuner today, I got a Really good price on it, The Cortex was only a few dollars more than the Flashpaq 2865 so I decided to spend the extra and get the Cortex in hopes that 1 day it'll actually do more than what the Flashpaq does.

But anyway my question is,...

I'm looking for people who have installed the SuperChips Tuner in to their New Camaro and what Performance Setup Settings were you happy with using and what those settings were so that when I get mine I can quickly set it up with something that you might already be happy with and then I could go from there Tweaking anything I feel should be changed after using it.

Your Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated, Any Suggestions or Advice would be helpful.

I'm not sure you can tweak anything. You load their tune and that's about it. You can monitor stuff, but you can't do any changes with this unit.

Sometime in the next few months, no specific ETA at the moment.

Yep,...

You are right.
I got my Cortex in the Mail today and went right to getting it updated and then Tuning the 2SS right away.

I used the 93 Octane Performance tune, Theres not much you can screw up here,... Even when asked to increase the Rev Limiter,... I hit OK and then the next screen was Completed hit OK.

I dont even know what it increased the Rev Limter to.

I also disabled the Skip-Shift even though i really didnt see it all that often anyway but it'll be nice to be able to shift it in to 2nd at slower speeds when that opportunity comes.

After programming, I took my car out for a short ride and man,... I can definitely tell a difference now that it's programmed.

I can't hardly wait until everything is broken in now that my exhaust, Intake and Tuner is done to it.

I wonder what my HP & Torq will be.
I'm guessing 450-460ish on the HP..

WTF,...

Today I went to Harbor Freight & Tools to pick up some stuff for the Car and while driving I still kept getting the Shift to 4th Gear so for some reason the Skip Shift Isn't Working.

I tried to update the Programmer again and it said that it was all updated, No Updates were available for the tuner.

I havent tried to Re-Tune my Camaro yet because the weather was pretty Crappy this evening.

Has anyone have this Issue with their Tuner where the Skip Shift isn't working?

It makes me wonder if the Car even got programmed because today I couldn't really tell a difference.

Thought's / Suggestions?

I have the original camaro edition tuner from superchips, as my car was one of their test cars. I have had no issues with the tuner. It works great. RWHP gains were in the area of 15-18 hp with no other modifications or parts additions.

"CAGS" computer assisted gas saver?!!!

I do not think that any computer programming with a "Tuner" is going to stop the "CAGS" from working. I believe you will have to buy, for around $30, a plug in adaptor that bypasses the relay on the manual transmission. If you do, the "Skip Shift" light will still come on but the relay will not block your shift to 2nd or 3rd. I put one on mine the day the dealer got my car and had to show them where it went. I had one previously installed on my 2001 vette, so I was ready for it on my new Camaro.

(Your skip shift is working if you can't go to 2nd or 3rd from 1st while at any easy pace)

completely not true...

the Diablo Predator and Trinity BOTH allow you to completely disable the CAGS...
in the actual tune file, it's a simple on/off setting.. 1 = on, 0 = off...

using the predator or trinity, depending on the vehicle - CAGS is automatically disabled when you install one of the diablo tunes, or you can go into Modify Tune > CAGS, and select "Off"... then install your change and you're good to go.

no need for those skip-shift-eliminators at all...

Hey DJ-Silver 2SS, So i take it that you've setup your Car to have the Skip-Shift Disabled correct?

Do you still get the Display on your Dash that tells you to Skip to 4th Gear?

I sent Scott@SuperChips a member of this site a P.M. as well as the Tech Support for SC an email Friday night but I figured that they were normal people and had weekends off since I havent heard back from either one of them yet,...

Sunday I think I'm just going to try and Re-Program the car again and see what happens.

OH,... BTW if your wondering what does happen when the Display get shown on my Dash,...

It wont allow me to shift gears (Shift In To 2nd Gear) right away but if I just keep the clutch in and wait a couple or few seconds then it'll let me do it,... I've never tried to force it in to 2nd or 3rd.

I think I'll try and re-install the programmer on Sunday and see what happens but as of right now how can I even trust that the car even got tuned at this point without being able to Dyno it to see some solid numbers if you know what I mean.

Well today, Sunday I reprogrammed my car and this time when I got to the Skip-Shift selection I selected Enabled, Then I went out driving and when I pulled away from a Red Light getting ready to change gears in to second gear the damn thing still wanted me to shift in to 4th gear, Not allowing me to shift in to 2nd gear right away.

So right now I just dont know if the car is being programmed or not at this point. I just dont know if I trust it or not.

I'm going to send SC another email letting them know of the new results and wait back to hear what they have to say.

Well,... I've been talking with Rich at SC and he tells me that when you get to the section where your setting up the Skip-Shift on the SC Tuner you are suppose to select "Disable".

This morning I went and did an update again on my Cortex 2950 and Re-Programmed my car once again and then took my car out for a Drive.

I'm still getting the Display on my Dash asking me to Skip Gears from 1st to 4th Gear and the 2 times that it did it the display was gone before i had the chance to change to 2nd gear.

To Anyone With A SC Tuner That Has Disabled Skip-Shift....

Do You or Do You Not Get the Skip-Shift Display on your Dashboard After Disabling the Skip-Shift on Your Car?

Your Information would be very much appreciated.

It can be turned off with a lot of various software. With HP Tuners or EFI Live, for example, you set the enable and disable speed to 255mph or so, effectively eliminating the set criteria from ever being experienced. It gets rid of the light on the dash, too, which the clip-in eliminators don't do.

I checked out both of those Tuners/Software Programs and wow,.. They seem pretty in-depth and seem like they do alot it's probably a bit more than what I'm wanting tho,...

I just can't believe that no one owns a SC Tuner here or no one has replied letting me know if they've used the Skip-Shift and what their results were.

Hopefully someone will pop in and let me know what happened with them,... I just might have to go searching myself to see if anyone owns a SC Tunder and send them a P.M. or something.

HP Tuners and EFI Live aren't really meant for people to just grab a canned tune and throw it in... it's meant for full customization really.

Well,...

Here's a VERY Disappointing Update that I just received from the SC Tech Support.

It seems that there is a Big Huge Fricken Bug with the SC Tunner Programs.

After over a Week of Troubleshooting this is finally the email that I receive from Superchips.

I apologize for the inconvenience but trading for a flashpaq will not solve the problem.

Please let us know which way you would like to proceed with this.

Well needless to say,... I'll be returning my Cortex Tuner to where I bought it from for a full refund.

After installing the tuner I could never get the Skip-Shift to work properly, I also Could Not Tell Any Difference in the performance in the Car after the install so without the Skip-Shift working I could Never really Trust that the car was even getting programmed to begin with,...

This isnt the first SC Tuner I've owned, It's Not Even the First Cortex Tuner that I've owned, I've been using SC Tuners since they were only a Chip that you used to plug in to your PCM and every vehicle that I used this on I could always tell a difference in the vehicle performance after being installed but with this one I felt nothing, No Difference hence the reason for returning it.

I dont know if it's because the Camaro has so much power to begin with and whats another 15HP on top of the stock 426HP plus my upgrades already that I didnt feel the difference or not but since the Skip-Shift wasnt working, I just couldnt Trust it and I think the only way to ever tell if it was working or not was to have the Vehicle Dyno'ed.

SuperChips make a Great product so I'm very surprised to see something like this happen, I wish i could afford the 4-5 Hour Trip North to them and a few nights in a Hotel somewhere but the extra added cost isnt worth it to me.

I would keep the Tuner if they would have said that it would only take a Few days or even a week or two (Because of their 30 Day Return Policy) to resolve the problem but to wait 2 or 3 Months for them to finally getting around to fixing it is just crazy and to tell you the truth,... Not the kind of Tech Support I Expected.

Bringing this back to life.

Having the same issues with mine...they said not many have reported this issue. I think its mainly due to the fact not many people with LS3's have this tuner.
