Dealers Will Start Taking Orders in October for 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

DETROIT — Without any fanfare, Chevrolet has released the second official image of the 2010 Camaro SS on the General Motors media Web site. Chevrolet Spokesman Terry Rhadigan told Inside Line on Wednesday that the effort is underway to give "traditionalists and enthusiasts something to whet their appetite."

Among the tidbits: Dealers will begin accepting orders for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the V6-powered 2010 Chevy Camaro coupe in October. Production will begin in mid-February, and cars will be in dealerships by mid-March 2009.

"We think there could be pent-up demand," said Rhadigan, explaining why orders are being taken well in advance of the car's appearance in showrooms. "The advice is to get to your Chevy dealer sooner than later." He noted that buyers "may have to put a deposit down" to get in line for the Camaro, but that requirement is completely up to Chevrolet dealers.

Rhadigan said that the idea of taking orders well ahead of production is not unique to the Camaro: Chevrolet dealers did the same thing with the Malibu and Traverse.

He would not disclose volume predictions for the Camaro SS or the V6 Camaro.

Rhadigan also said that the Camaro SS will return an estimated 23 mpg on the highway, compared to 26 mpg on the highway for the V6-engined model. The EPA has yet to rate either version of the new Camaro. Rhadigan said the details and images of the Camaro SS have lagged behind the marketing push for the base model for a simple reason: "We really wanted to get the fuel efficiency message out with the V6."

The first official image of the 2010 Camaro SS had a nontraditional debut in an advertisement in a Conde Nast magazine supplement in late August. The singer Fergie was photographed beside the car in a free supplement entitled "Fashion Rocks."

The Camaro SS is expected to be priced around $30,000, while the V6 cars will start in the low $20Ks.

What this means to you: You've got one month to scrape together that Camaro deposit. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Awesome news. However I think I may wait til next model year because I have a wedding to pay for this coming summer and then of course a house to follow. My car may not be rolling till summer of 2010.

Oh man I know the feeling. If I'm in a position where I know I'll be fine, I'll get one sooner. But right now It's up in the air where I'll be financially next summer. I may be house poor for a year.

Thank God I am living at home while I go to school. At the rate I'm saving, I should have my Maro at late 2009 or early 2010 and financing only around 10K of it. It depends entirely on how pricey the car is or how much corners I'm willing to cut on options.

Either way, it's better than going through the process of trying to get it right on its release. Deposits, dealer-markups, etc., etc. I'd rather be patient.

The thing is this, if they're willing to start taking orders, does this mean the pricing will be announced at that time?

Very nice, I may put my deposit down but I have to see every color in person to make my decision. Maybe they will have pics at Indy.

Scott said pricing will not be released until the begining of the year.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=209

kind of hard to order a car that does not have a price or options listed for it.

one other thing he says about the Magazines

If this is indeed true, it looks like I will be ordering my IOM RS/SS in the next two months… :party0048:

I'm waiting for 2012. I want to be able to afford one fully loaded and besides, the Gen V plants and/or DCT might be out by then.

Waiting on a vert with (hopefully) a gen V plant and HUD so while this is good news for my information appetite, overall it doesn't make too much difference to me.
