That's what happened!!! No worky no more.
I know what you mean. The first dell desktop I purchased did not work from day one.One week on the phone talking to people whom barely spoke english, let alone could read their english cheat sheets, they finally agreed that they could not make it work. They Paid The shipping back to them and sent me a new one.
Two years later I purchased a laptop from them and no problems.Good and bad in all makes.Really frustrating when they dont work now that are life's are so dependent on them.Just shows you how far things have gone.

I have used the same dell laptop for over 4 years for work. I've gotten pissed at how slow Windows ran on the thing day after day. But thats only because of all the damn patches my company puts on this thing whenever they find some new vulnerability. I have so many services running that were installed by IT it makes my head spin. Anyway. The HW is great. I frequently bring it to work in my backpack while it's still running. That takes a good 40 min... And it still hasn't overheated yet!

The ATI display drivers sometimes cause issues and make my display die in weird ways, but that's about the only possible hw issue I've seen. I feel like it's just the SW though because a reboot fixes it.

Probably. I can't remember.

It's their on line bill pay. I don't pay much cause I usually don't have a balance, but it seems every time I do, they are down. OR they are changing the way you log on. Irritating. Trying to pay the kids Christmas off. Sent half by money order in January, and forgot till today about the other half. Minimum do on the 17th. Their site is down like it allways is, That's AFTER I had to redo a whole new log-in. At least that part worked. It's STILL sown as we speak.

The computers work fine. In fact, I've bought 7 Dell PCs now and never had a problem. (after my initial purging of all the adware crap)

Damn, dejavu', I guess I did start a hate Dell thread. I forgot.

Went with an Alienware gaming laptop last year, and it's worked flawlessly. I'm assuming Dell didn't mess with a good thing when they bought Alienware out.

Sweeeeet!

I'm dell warranty parts direct certified. That makes life easier for us at work.

I fill out an online form, describe the problem, and next day air, I get the parts.
Oh and yes that works on others systems not purchased by us. We can provide that kind of support to our MBA students.

Dude, it's a Dell. It probably didn't work when you got it. How's that 24-hour customer support? Or is it 24-hour hold for customer support? I can never remember.

yeah their online bill pay does seem to never work. But as far as service I got the 4 year extended service plan anytime I called I always got somebody who spoke English very well and never waited more than a couple minutes. They even came out and replaced my entire keyboard when a key popped off and then replaced the entire screen half just because the tech noticed the bezel was starting to crack slightly in one corner. I loved my Dell

I have had great luck with my Dells, and no luck with 1.) E-machine laptop, and the replacement Gateway (Gateway bought out the E-machines laptops).

E-machine, screen went out, took it back to purchase point service center... 7...SEVEN weeks later they told me it would be bought out in replacement dollars... Got the gateway...Pretty much identical puter... 6 months later, similar problems and similar results...

Dell, First one I had I dropped it about three feet to carpeted floor.... Crap.. doesn't work now... Called Dell, after trying several things, they determined it needed a service and so the very next day, a tech showed up at my office, (Personal Computer) and replaced the mother board, updated the bios and there it was....

Next time it went out, same problem, not their fault, I dropped it the first time, I was headed to Puerto Rico the following day to cover a volleyball tournament... I explained this on the phone, and their soultion blew me away... Ok, take it to Puerto Rico wth you and tell us the name of the Hotel your stating at... Yup, about two hours after I arrived at the hotel the next day, knock, knock knock... It's the Dell Dude, Dudette in this case. She replace the mother board, flashed the bios and there I was... in business... Loving Life, and While I naver have to use Dell Pay Online, I'll probably never own anything but a Dell....

Customer service is good IMO. Whenever one of our laptops or desktops need something replaced, we just tell them what they want to hear and they ask no question except for, "Where do you want the part sent?"

Don't have any experience with their billing system though, but I understand how frustrating it would be

I've had 2 Dell accounts for about 8 years now. Just opened a business account because of the 24 hr. shipping you can get. (I procrastinated and ordered too late)

So maybe the customer support is only great on the business side?

I have a lady I can call now. Speaks English and is inteligent and has common sense. Knows how the company works. She gave me her number (business ) to be able to get her whenever I needed help. She wasn't BSing either. I have called her twice since then.

Again, it's concerning the business account now.

You guys/girls should look into having your pc's built by a pc shop (hell, a kid down the street would be cheaper). You get warranty's, your computer will last longer, and it doesn't come with bloat-ware. Don't forget about the uber-awesome-speed.

I built a work pc for my father-in-law for $1200, that includes a 22" widescreen monitor. He'll never utilize how fast that thing is. Windows loads in about 10 seconds - that means that he's able to use it immediately after loading.

People usually have slow computers because they end up installing 18 toolbars with every download, along with 32 other "free adware, spyware, virus scanner" programs. I looked at my grandma's computer one time and 1/4 of the screen was covered with toolbars. It took windows XP 5 minutes to load, and IE another 5 minutes. You should always go to "custom install" and uncheck the toolbar install, along with anything else you don't need.

Sorry for the long post :(

People wonder how my computer loads up so fast (because "windows is so slow")...I tell them that I set it to not load every program and its mother on startup.

I use SSD.

And yes, you read that link right. 75 microseconds. I use Windows 7 as my operating system. Push the power button, wait 8-10 seconds, type in password, wait 5 seconds. Done booting.

People are usually stunned to see a gaming PC boot in less than 15 seconds.

Never under stood the need or desire folks have for fast boot up times, mine may take 30 sec but I only reboot when I have too. AKA its always on 24/7 only a program update or install that forced a reboot, will get a reboot out of me

Computers last longer when left on, all those tiny path ways heating up and cooling isn’t good as anything that gets hot expands, and thus cools/shrinks, sooner or later it will fail during those heat cycles; harddrive last so much longer too when left running.

The most wear n tear any electronic parts see's beyond power spikes are heat n cooling cycles.

For most people, they never own the machine long enough for this to be a problem. And for some, like myself, leaving the laptop on 24/7 (although ideal) is simply not an option. :(
