LS376/480 EFI LS3 Gen IV V-8

Anyone seen one of these in action, they clain it has 50 more HP than the stock LS3...Id love it if GM put these in the Camaro SS

LS376/480 EFI LS3 Gen IV V-8 MSRP
$8,928.57

NEW LS376/480

What's Hot?
Hot cam
Big EFI power
24-month GMPP warranty

LS3 + Hot Cam = Loads of Fun
The hot new small-block V-8 in the GM lineup is the hyper-aggressive LS3. It offers a high-revving 376-cid combination that represents generations of small-block V-8 development and engineering. Not only is the LS3 an amazing engine in its stock configuration, but with those high-flowing rectangular port cylinder heads, the LS3 is loaded with potential. To tap into this, the engineers at GM Performance Parts offer you the LS376/480 an LS3 with an upgraded camshaft that ups power by a whopping 50 horsepower!

The LS376/480 comes with the same great features as the LS3 crate engine. The bottom end includes a 6-bolt aluminum block, nodular crank, high performance rods, and 10.7:1 pistons. The heads are high-flowing rectangular-port L92 units that have been upgraded with high-revving, hollow-stem valves. The same EFI intake manifold feeds the hungry engine, while 1.7:1 roller rockers work with the upgraded camshaft.

The GM Performance Parts engineers picked the LS Hot Cam (P/N 88958733) to take the LS3 to the next level. This cam specs out with .525" intake and exhaust valve lift. Duration (@ .050") is 219? intake and 228? exhaust, which allows for a dramatic increase in power. The engine will idle and cruise just like an LS3, but the power increase is there whenever you need it.

so wait, is the cam the only difference? i thought our ls3 was already 6-bolt w/ w/ hollow stems and 10.7 pistons and 1.7:1 rockers? if it's only the cam, i'll be swapping that bad boy out in no time, if it's anything else to get to 480...:(

aside from all that, the ls3 does have enormous potential, especially when compared to the ls2. not that the 2 didn't, but the 3 is so much stronger and just all around ready to rumble!

Not sure, have to do some reasearch....Im not sure if i total agree with you about the LS2 Vs LS3 There both great, but Im not sure the limitation of either...Im wanting to do more with my '05 vette (ls2) but im still gather info on how to get the most bang for my buck.

From what Ive read on the Corvette forums, most lean to going to 4.10 gears then Long tube headers.....then Cam...more to come on the subject.

I'm sure LT headers, cat-back, and cai with that hot cam will produce more power then the 480. because that 480 is with the stock manifolds that come on it. . .

It's a stock LS3 +hot cam. Smaller lift on the intake than stock but more duration on intake and exhaust.

That cam won't pass a sniffer though, I'm sure. It would be nice, but I think that cam would be the problem.

I wonder how much closer to 500 horse' one could get using the LS7 cam. Those heads are CNC-ported, but despite larger displacement, more exotic parts, what is there to obstruct flow other than the heads and intake? I'll have to check into that because if that cam will smog in a Z0', why not an LS3? Yeah, there's a lot left on the table, but GM won't put non-smoggable cars on dealer lots.

FYI, gmpartsdirect.com has a price on that cam:

GM PART # 88958733
CATEGORY: Engine Camshaft
PACK QTY: 1
CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $520.00
OUR PRICE: $378.56

and the specs of the LS376/480 are the same as any old LS3, except for the cam... so this should be a direct swap without the need of upgrading springs, etc.

and I dont have to pass a sniffer... as long as the car plugs in and passes the OBDII scan, I'm golden

that's what i thought. wow, just a cam swap and maybe intake/exhaust 500 ponies is right there! slap a blower on (or 2 ) and you're easily looking @ way over 600! in fact, going off of 500 as a base and using the 1lb=7% hp gained, i'm getting 745 hp@ 7 lbs of boost! but that's just my math.

And, to you, I say: :slice: :middlefinger:

I didn't mean to come off like the idea was bad or anything, FWIW. I was making a comment more on how the topic was opened with the wish that GM would offer that cam in the LS3 in the Camaro. Again, not shooting down ideas, because come on, I want power too. I just wanted to be clear

I have no state inspection either. . . although I live in NC that has one. lol.

but yes that would be a good mod for some. I personally will do exhaust first and then cam. to see how much more power I'm getting after the swap.

well, they're talking about requiring us to pass a sniffer inspection sometime in the future... and they already require us to pass the OBDII scan... but even my '96 Silverado with no cats and no AIR pump passes the sniffer in Texas... and for those of us who have land in BFE places, its a simple matter of registering the car in a county that doesn't require emissions testing... and I'm pretty good at that trick... lol
