Camshafts

Can someone help help me understand choosing a better cam over stock? For say maybe a 1978 street 350?

I will take a stab at it.

Stock smog motor with stock heads and stock compression - no other real mods? If so, you can use a Comp 268H. That is a default for that application. It works. Headers, converter and intake will help some but are not mandatory.

If you have more mods than that you will need to provide a lot more info. It is important to match the cam to the application and the rest of the setup.

Call Thunder Racing. 877 516 race.

Best cams out there IMO. Very friendly customer support.

I'm not saying to quit looking right here, but I second the Comp Cams 268 Series for a stock application... I had a bone stock Nova with an anemic 305... Decided to start with the cam... Wow, relatively speaking it really woke the car up... Following that, I put a four barrel intake, spread bore holley with vacumn secondaries, headers and full dual exhaust and had a nice lope with plenty of power. Ported the heads and wow... what a difference it all made... It wasn't a 350 but it had plenty of power at the time... Best running 305 I ever drove...

Street small block Chevys love any brand cam with 220 intake duration and 230 exhaust duration on 110 lobe seperation angle - 112 LSA is OK too.
