I think that red pic is one of the renders from the designers.

FWIW, most of the time, in the auto' industry, those are called Roof Joint Moldings. The ones above the door glasses are usually called Roof Drip Moldings.

And of course my point is that it's painted in the render but rubber in RL production.

Manufacturers know that Roof Drip Moldings deviate from the traditional hardtop look that gives a car like this its sportiness, yet a Roof Drip Molding is useful since it acts as a gutter from water falling on the roof to stream it down the molding instead allover the sides of the window in the driver's line of sight. It is this reason why the RS package incorporates body-colored ones to give the illusion they're not there by making them stand out less. I like them more in the body color than in black.

Personally, I kinda like the way they look in black. Then again, I like little contrasting things like that.

So... is it a different material or is it that the material is just painted?

Because if I am getting a black one and it is the same material, the Roof Ditch Molding doesn't get me anything.

It gets rid of two black lines running down the roof of your car that you can see from a long way out. Remember that the Maro is LOW....and you'll be looking down on it. With my rally stripes they would have looked really out of place.

Thanks for illustrating that headpunter. Personally, I like the painted ones to match the color of the car. Glad I ordered the RS!

Thanks for this. I really like the black trim on the roof with the silver but i wud love to see what body colour trim looks like with the silver before making my final decision on it! Just a but concerned, would the paint chip off the trim with time and make it look fugly or is the rubber some how dyed that colour throughout?

I say color matched is better for 2 1/2 reasons.

1. It makes it easier when you're out there waxing it to not have to try and dodge rubber trim.
2. With time, black rubber molding has always turns disgusting looking (at least with all of my cars)
1/2. IMO, it just looks cleaner.

The roof joint moldings on my dad's '03 Buick Century have come loose and have bowed up slightly above the roof line. He complained to Buick but they wouldn't fix it. Dealer wanted over $500 to get new ones painted and installed. Hope Chevy does a better job than Buick.

They're just not something I want standing out and attracting attention away from the rest of the car, so color matched for me, please!
