Telsa roadster

If anybody has seen my updating a car thread, you might see where I'm coming from with this.

I like the technology of Tesla, but I'm not a big fan of the Roadster's design.

I'd be interested in your opinions

I remember seeing a report on that little car on TV... looks pretty cool. I would definitely consider a similar design for a commuter car.

I agree about the roadster design though... it doesn't lend itself to much practicality. However, it would be difficult with today's technology to build a full-size car on the same premise that would get anywhere near that distance per charge or performance.

I wonder however if they could produce a design that recycles all of the kinetic energy created through the movement of the car and use it to recharge the batteries. I know the Toyotas do that when the gas motor is running, but just think how cool it would be to have an electric car that recharges itself through the rotation of the wheels.

Well the power of it's motor is unbelievable as it is(0-60 in 4 seconds........). Granted the vehicle itself is only about 2500 pounds, though. The way I look at it is that that weight is minus an engine, a gearbox, a drive shaft, and anything else you can think of in today's cars. But the power of these types of motors are only going to increase, and the capacity of the batteries increase with it.
take a look at this site http://www.teslamotors.com/index.php?js_enabled=1

If they fixed up the styling a little bit it wouldn't be a half bad car....

Yes!! another hit for the good 'ole U-S of A. They did base the car off of the Lotus, but that doesn't bother me too much.

Electric carmaker selects New Mexico for factory,

Michigan had tried for factory.

February 20, 2007

FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES

A California electric carmaker picked Albuquerque, New Mexico, to build a factory that will employ around 400.

Michigan officials had made a last-minute pitch in January to locate the factory in the state after Tesla Motors announced it would locate an engineering center in Rochester Hills that will employ 60.

Tesla selected Albuquerque over locations in Pittsburg, Calif., and Flagstaff, Ariz.
The jobs created in Albuquerque are projected to pay between $24,000 and $100,000 a year, plus benefits and stock options, according to a state of New Mexico news release quoted by the Albuquerque Tribune.

The plant will build a four-door electric-powered sedan called WhiteStar that is projected to run for 250 miles per charge and cost $50,000 to $65,000. The engineers in Rochester Hills will work on the White Star.

Tesla already is building an electric roadster in England that costs $100,000. The car has gone on sale but has not been delivered to customers
