current XM radio subscription rates

Hi all,

I'm going to be losing my trial XM radio next week.... I've gotten 2 phone calls to subscribe so far, but at rates that don't motivate me to sign up.

Their first offer to me is to continue w/ a 3 month subscription for @ $8 mo + a few bucks in fees... well... maybe...

What sort of negotiations have you been able to pull off? Do I have a better chance to negotiate if I just let the free trial period elapse? Should I ask for a year subscription at a time, or go for the quarterly offers?

Ideas? I'm not entirely certain that I want XM radio actually, but if the price were right, then I'd keep it.... meaning, I want a price that I can't refuse.

Thanks in advance for ideas and suggestions! Yes, and I already know not to give them my credit card #.

So far I have ignored the mail offers I have received (don't really listen to the radio much but XM is better than regular radio) and each successive one keeps getting better and better. Last one was $77 for a year, 6.41 a month.

As with anything, if ya have to have it now it's gonna cost ya. If ya can live without it and wait for it, you can get a deal...

I took the $77 dollar a year deal. I also got a free radio for for my wife's car at the same yearly price. Not really happy with XM but sirrius is not available without an external tuner for the Camaro.

Why don't you just pay the $499.00? It's a one time payment and as long as you own the car your good.

Not sure where you went to school but 64 x 2 does not equal 68

I just got one in the mail.
12 months for $77 or 5 months for $20 with no reactivation fee.

I love how the 5 months rate is way less than the the 12 month, even when you double the 5 months it almost twice as much for 2 more months...

They called me at like 6am on a weekend one time with the same offer, I told them to never call me that early again...

I have not reactivated yet because I did not find anything worth listening to. I use my iPhone and Pandora radio for all the music I want.

But yes you typically get better offers if you wait, and you do it when they call you.

when my trial expired i let it go, the car was in the garage for winter anyway so i didnt care or need to pay for sat radio. but they kept calling and sending me flyers in the mail. finally i saw one for 1/2 off a 12 month subscription. came out to 77. so i got it. but its only for a year and then the rate will go up. and when that happens ill prob let it expire again.

I like the XM, but not enough that I'm going to pay much for it.

XM has all these GM equipped cars driving around (including my Trailblazer) that don't pay for the service. Why doesn't XM just offer something like $5 month per car? It's not costing XM anything (they're already broadcasting) and I know I'd pay the $60 a year for the service. I'm sure there are a lot more like me. Does XM really make more charging $12 a month for X number of users over the $5 a month for Y users?

I would do the lifetime but with the way XM and Sirius are on the brink of bankruptcy I think I'll keep going to the annual rates. Plus steaming music over cell is becoming more and more reliable.

I got the 5 months for $20 and told them that my car is seasonal so it will start in April. $4 per month is not bad.

Hey guys, might want to double check the lifetime deal.

I heard that they were offerring $100 off the reg $499 lifetime making it $399.

Agreed, XM could go under but if you're gonna spend money for the service and they do end up staying around, this is the plan I'd do.

Flipside of the coin is buying up a few of the old 30gb Zunes off Craigslist for $50 bucks a piece and using those. I currently have two in the console. More music than you'd ever really need.

they want you to pay for "howard stern's" salary of 100,000,000 a year!
i'm gonna let mine lapse, and tell 'em that howard's gonna be an idol judge and disappear!..that should be good for a significant price drop!..good luck!

good point!..well taken!..however in this economy if ya don't "bite" eventually you will have just a"conventional" radio again, because "sat" radio will be gone!
it's nice, bit i can survive without it!..i kinda like listening to the maniac on sirius, but i ain't gonna pay "his" salary!..wait 'em out!

Lifetime subscription for $400. They don't advertise it, you have to ask for it. You'll have xm in your car the rest of your life, even if you have to get a new oem radio in your camaro. I've done the same thing for my sirius in the other car 4 years ago. So most plans are an average of $13/month. I don't know about you but I plan on keeping my camaro for forever. So after 30 months, your $400 lifetime subscription has paid for itself and you have free xm for the rest of your life! My sirius subcription has already paid itself off and I would say it was a worth while investment. Plus xm will let you do a 4 month payment plan. They just charge your credit card $100 a month for the next 4 months. Can't get any easier and more worthwhile. Don't hold me to these rates, this is just the deal I got on both my sirius and xm radio, but I signed up for the lifetime xm right after I bought the camaro because I knew I was going to do it anyway.

Obviously it was a typo...but if you were smart enough you would have gotten the jest of the message. $68 is less than $77
