Campus Book Stores

I'm sorry but I got to vent about dumb people working at campus book stores. They sold me the wrong books yesterday and now I have to drive back to my campus which is 67 miles away one wayThey had my book print list right in their hands! Next time I'm helping myself:(

They sold you the wrong books? Our's was always self serve, like any other store. But lots of people would just buy online to save money.

College textbooks are a racket I tell you. According to the book stores, textbooks depreciate more than cars do. 95-99% over the course of a semester.

Buy it for $100. Sell it at semesters end for $5. Next semester they resell it for $95.

I had books I trashed rather than take the fifty cents they offered me on them after having paid $50 for 'em...

Books are a lot easier to work with. Reading page after page of pure text from a computer screen awful. And its very annoying going between pages when doing a calculation assignment (between theory, example, and question for instance). Plus, with a text book you can put your assignment paper or notebook on the opposite page of the text or just in front of it. If you do that with a laptop you have to render it useless by either closing it or moving it out of reach.

All my lecture notes are online and that is quite useful. Easy to find and organize, plus they're always complete.

we order them online and print out the list. When we get to the store they are waiting and if one is wrong, they find the right one off the shelf or order it. However School book stores very rarely give anything back on text books anymore, Last semester I paid 650 and got back 100.

Yeh it sucks, getting credit back from the school book store for the actual book. Best thing to do is to sell them to another student for half or 3/4 the price of what you paid

Eh... I guess that it's a good thing to be studying engineering and digital media, we really don't do much reading at all. It's more like studying designs and doing labs than actually having to read.

Engineering has its downsides ... like the entire month of October when you've got 6 courses. My only e-book was for philosophy and we had required readings from it. But most of my lab manuals were electronic and it did get annoying (I could have printed them off, but I didn't). I'd hate to have to go through machine design or vibrations with an e-book.
