Colorado / Wyoming / New Mexico Owners

Hi All,,,

I found out today I have to attend a hydraulics class in Gillette Wyoming 18-20 May 2010.

I live in Central Texas and it is my intention to drive more or less straight to Gillette, as I'll be in somewhat of a hurry getting there...

On the way back though, I want to take some scenic routes heading out from Gillette to the west, and then South into northern Colorado. Mountain scenic drives...

I'm looking for recommendations on drives.

If there are any 2010 owners in Gillette, I would be up for a meet and greet dinner type thing.

I'll probably be stopping somewhere in central and then again in southern Colorado or northern New Mexico as well...on the return trip...I'mup for some meet ups and dinner in those areas as well...

I'm not real familiar with any of these areas, so ideas are greatly appreciated. I also look forward to the oppurtunity to possibly meet anyone willing to do so...

Thanks All...

take 90 west to Buffalo and then take rt 16 thru the Big Horn mountains to Worland the take789 south thru the Wind river canyon--dont know about Colorado but its all goodyellowstone park will probably still be closed--if you come that way Worland is about 1 1/4 hrs from me--be glad to mett up and take in dinner in Cody,Wy at the Irma hotel [ Buffalo Bills hotel ] good food--we could meet in Cody which is 79 miles from Worland-and well worth the drive.

I would recommend going west on 14 out of Gillette to Yellowstone. Then from there south out of the park on 191. That will go south to Utah and then you could cross into Colorado on 40 into Craig and Steamboat. If you continue to Granby then you could go into Rocky Mountain National park and go over Trail Ridge road on Hwy 34. It may not be open yet if you come before Memorial day. From the east side of the park in Estes Park, take Hwy 7 to 72 south on the peak to peak Hwy. There are many more places to see in Colorado, for example the million dollar Hwy 550 in southern Colo. Pm me or some of the other Colo members, some one will be willing to get a group together and meet up and drive with you. The Camaro club in Colo will get together at the drop of a hat.

Sounds like a plan. Is there an area where The Colorado Camaro5 members are most prevelant... more prone to meet...etc... I'll try to stop/stay the night at a convienient location. It doesn't matter to me, I just want to try and avoid the big cities (though certainly not a requirement)...at least on the way home. First time to this part of the country so scenic drives (twists/turns/ups/downs) are the prescription...I'ld love to see some Mountain Mods...

I'm still currently offshore of Brazil, and my connection here is pretty slow, and I'm working, but I'll pm you when I get home in about two weeks and start laying out my plans with your assistance and that of others...

Thanks a Ton for the response AG383...

Does the AG have to do with Silver...???

As an aside... I now have a response from Wyoming, (Wyoming T/A), New Mexico, a friend I met in Austin when he came our way (SSRS2010), and Colorado, (AG383)...) Any others are welcome to join in, Looking forward to meeting as many owners, and seeing as many cars as possible along the way...

Thanks All...

Another route thru the Bighorns would be to go down I90 to the Tongue River exit (just past sheridan right before Montana) then take it over the mountains. Very Curvy and snowy. Beautiful. Then proceed south towards Manderson, Thermopolis. Definitely take the Wind River Canyon. Out of the canyon turn west at ShoShoni and then head towards Riverton (indian Casinos). Then South or West not terrific either way until you get past Rawlins to head south to Craig CO.

I have google map here but man is my connection slow. I'm keeping track of all this and will really lay out the map when I get home.... Of course, nothing will be set in stone, ooops, missed that turn... ok lets see where this goes.... I guess I'll have to check somewhere to find out what roads are closed due to snow/ice, or whatever you folks have that closes roads... We had a little pass, about 2000 feet above sea level that was closed one day... Manure truck flipped over......

Thanks again All...

I appreciate the info, and I'll probably be checking with the Wyoming Department of 5th Gen Camaro Owners... and the Colorado Department of 5th Gen Camaro Owners, and the........

Four days and a wake up until my freedom bird gets here and I get released to come home to the land of fresh milk, english as a first language (no Porteubonics for a month) and breakfast tacos at Los Vega Mexican food resturant...

Trip to Wyoming and back through Colorado etc...

Bump....

Ok, I have my confirmation and the class will be held at the Best Western Inn, 109 N. US Highway 14-16, in Gillete Wyoming. I'll be staying at that location also...

Strobi, if you and some friends or anyone else want to get together maybe Tuesday or Wednesday night for dinner, I'ld be all over it... I'll meet wherever you want... driving aint a problem...

My wife is going to fly into Gillete on the 20th of May, my last day of class, and I'll pick her up at the airport...at around 2:00. My plan is as of right now to head west from Gillete to Buffalo and on to Cody. Dinner there if it isn't too late with Wyoming T/A and any others that care to join us... I plan on staying there overnight and then Friday morning heading South into Colorado.

AG383, if you direct me to where you and some members might want to meet, I'll adjust my driving plans to fit that... As far as I know, I'll be into Colorado friday late morning or very early afternoon. not sure of all the distances yet, but I don't think it's much more than a couple hundred miles from Cody to the Colorado line... I'm not sure if I am going to stay in Colorado Friday night, I may head on down into New Mexico... depends on the butt pain level...I plan on hooking up with a friend from Alba-Crackie on Saturday, and then heading onto Texas....

Looking forward to it all... hope to meet up with some or all of you as possible...

Colorado

Robert, let me know when and where you will be coming into Colorado and we can meet up with you somewhere. If you are coming through on the weekend, we should be able to get some cars together.

Plans more or less finalized

Hey All,

Ok, my wife is flying into Gilette on the afternoon of the 20th.

20th, Drive from Gilette to Cody hopefully to meet up with Wyoming T/A and any others that want to have dinner at the Irma hotel. (Where he recommended)

21st...We'll spend the night in Cody and from there drive to Rock Springs Wyoming on Friday the 21st... We will stay the night... I'ld love to meet some other Camaro owners for a few drinks or dinner.

22nd... We will drive from Rock Springs to Montrose Colorado.

23rd... We will drive from Montrose to Albuquerque NM. Supposed to meet up with a friend there that met up with us in Austin a few months back... He had a great time with us in Austin and wants to return the favor...

I am willing to meet up with any folks from this rough route along the way...

I'll also be getting into Gilette on the evening of the 17th, and if anyone is interested in meeting for dinner tuesday or wednesday evening the 18th or 19th, I'm game... Strobi mentioned something about it, and if I remember correctly, he is in Buffalo, Wy.
