Guess what I did today?

grenaded my transmission....

2nd gear went out on me today along with the lock-up on 4th gear.

i knew it was coming to this, 2nd gear has been acting up on me for a while, but i was hoping to limp it along before it came to this.

it sucks...

and adding to the fun. with all the stop signs on base, I had to gun it up to 30 mph before the car would shift to 3rd so i looked like a jackass who couldnt drive.

anyone got a spare car i can DD for a lil while?

That's awful. How much of that can you fix, or are you going to have to pay for the parts and labor?

i could fix it/rebuild it myself, but i dont have enough free time, it would take me roughly a month or 2 to do so, plus i have no where to work on it.
Im replacing the whole damn thing. its got 185k on it with what i believe is the stock fluid, even tho the fluid is not burnt or black. just blood red. im glad its not leaking tho. im going to hobble it home tonight and pick up my buddies beater car to dd till i can work out something with my trans builder.

im thinkin 3200-3500 stall, reverse manual valve body, 700r4/4l60 instead of the "e", no computer controlling this one and slipping when i dont want it to

lookin at around 1500 for his level 2 build and remove/install, worth 768hp (cus thats what it took to break one).

at least the rear end is holding up... tho when i get the new trans in there, that'll be the next thing to go...

motor-175k =blown head gaskets (my fault for not hooking up the steam line correctly)

trans- 185k =3000 stall, manual valve body, boom!

rear end- 185+k = stock.... lets see how long it lasts...

just got an email back from my builder:

Quote:
With 185k were gonna need to start with a sonnax reconditioning kit. The valve body and pump are gonna be worn out. This kit will bring them back to OE or better specs. Then on top of that we can go with the Transgo HD2 kit. Ill go with High energy alto frictions through out. Corvette servo, Carbonite 2-4 band, with heavy duty lugs. There are a couple of little tricks that i do with the 4l60e, that you wont notice but your transmission will thank me. For the upgraded units i use a different 3-4 clutch stack up. Pinless/leakless accumulator pistons. Complete bushing kit, every bushing is replaced. If the pump halfs are worn out then i resurface both sides flat.
plus my choice of stall and a couple other goodies,

and to top it off, a friend of mine just got a new car and is giving me his old beater.

while the Z is down and out getting the trans replaced, im borrowing my buddies spare beater car.

a 92 ford escort lx.....

yay.....

but it gets over 30 miles to the gallon so...im happy with that. its got a coolant leak and an oil leak that im trying to pinpoint, but it pulls strong to 8000rpms at which point you are doing about 25mph...lol

seriously tho. the car isnt that bad (considering its a ford). doesnt have enough power for me to try doing anything stupid with it...
