Want a sub, not an audio buff - some layman advice?

HI all - first post, LOVE this forum!!

I am not an audio tech-buff by any means, but know that I need to make some improvements to my audio, mainly to give the bass a nice boost. Is there anything else I need to / should do in order to make the audio a little better?

I have the 9speaker 245Watt system, I know I need a sub. I like to listen to electronic music, house, techno - and usual radio so I need a system that caters to both tastes.

Looking for some layman guidance on what I ought to do.

Would you guys suggest I took it to Chevy for their sub-package, or take it to an audio specialist and ask them to do the work?

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks

How capable are you in the DIY field? If you can do basic wiring, then I'd suggest doing it yourself. Allows more budget for the goodies, lol!!

The MTX package looks nice, is pretty much plug and play, and will be the simpliest install of the DIY.

SubThump offers some fine drop in enclosures that will work with what you are after. They even have matchign amp racks, so all you do is add product and wiring. Not sure if they offer any of that, product wiring, will their enclosures, but it's worth looking into.

JL Audio has a Stealthbox available, but I'm not a fan.

Depending upon budget, and how much work you want to do, I'd lean towards the MTX drop in sub. Although a local audio shop might beat that price. If you go local, I'd think a decent 10" or 12" with a 500wrms amp will be more then enough to achieve what you are looking for.

Answer = Terrible, definitely don't trust myself in that arena.

Will check out the SubThump as you guys suggest. Question is, would a 500w amp plus a 10-12inch sub be all I need? The higher wattage amp would power the sub and my exiting boston acoustics speakers? Or would the amp just power the sub, and the existing speakers would sound loud & sufficient enough with just the amp addition?

Cheers all,
Dave

amp would just power the sub. you dont want to use alternative power on your existing boston acoustics.
