Anyone with a GPS VENT mount?

Very simple, looking for a VENT MOUNT that works well with the center a/c vents. I have seen a couple online but I wanted to see what some of the folks on here have used and worked well, not just another junk part to add to your junk parts bin!

Thanks in advance!

A.

I have one to go with my TomTom 540s. I have it mounted on the left side of the right most center vent. Visibility is great and no problems reaching it.

My TomTom has the circular mount and I find it tough to remove it from the mount without popping at least one of the vent mount clips off. Generally easy to pop it back in. You won't get the feeling that you could take fire from a Sherman tank, i.e. it doesn't lock down like solid metal.

It's definitely not a perfect vent mount, but it works. Have never had it fall off while driving, but I've only had it a few weeks so can make no claims on long term durability.

I got mine from MountGuys via Amazon.

I have one for my Garmin and I'm very careful using it. When someone else is in the car I don't even let them touch it. All the weight of the device is hanging from the small plastic deflectors so; it wouldn't take much to snap one off.

I do like the fact that it is out of the windshield and still in the line of sight for driving without using adhesive. When it's not in use, 99% of the time, it is put away.

Search Garmin (or whatever kind) vent mount on ebay, then find your gps unit.

I'm running the Proclips vent clip that wedge between the vent and dash. I actually used two and tied them together for better support and less stress on the dash. This is not cheap and I still consider it a temporary solution. Long term I'm go to a double din carputer solution to minimize the number of portable gadgets.

I have the 530S model tomtom, I too am looking for alt ways of mounting it. i tried using the cupholder method but i have 2 of them one in front of the console compartment/arm rest, the other is in front of the shifter and sits slightly under the HVAC controls on the dash. so at the moment I have mine attached to the glass via suction cup in the upper left side of my windshield. I will have to check out your link and get one like that .

Yes, I use the Proclip vent mount with my Garmin GPS in the center of the dash and it works great. I would install it when it's warm since it takes some effort to install between the plastic vent and the dash area. It seems pretty tight and stable. It is more or less fairly permanent since you don't want to be installing and un-installing over and over and stressing the plastic over and over. It doesn't block the vent that much and you can still redirect the vent air.

The Garmin suction mount will fit snug right in the drivers side window defroster. I was looking for a place to mount mine so I popped the vent out of the defroster port. I pushed the mount into the port.... and "snap".... it clipped right in. It has been in there for about 8 months now with no problems.

Really cool!

How do you go about for power? Just use power outlet in the car or did you internally wire it for power?

I wired it under the 4-pack guage and tapped into the 12V input (cig lighter)... it is ignition activated, so I dont have to turn it on every time I get in the car.

I have the pro clip mount for the center console of my camaro and the vent clip mount by pro clip in my Highlander. Both work great. Proclip.com

They might seem expensive, but they are really well made and are vehicle specific.
