DIY: Painting my V6 Engine Cover (Grey / Orange Metallic)

First you'll need to remove the oil cap rubber ring, clean the engine cover with alcohol (or soap & water), mask it off, spray a coat of adhesive promoter, let dry, spray 3 layers of paint, let dry and then finish off with 2 layers of clear coat.

well... pictures worth a thousand words

Very nice. I was at autozone today to get the orange but they didn't have any in stock. Still looking. I have time my Camaro is TPW for 3/29/2010. Just getting my parts in order for when it arrives to complete my list of changes.

Couple questions though, is the orange that you bought a close match, and are you satisfied with the outcome of the color. There are many oragne colors on the market just looking for forum input on color match.

Thanks

I'm pretty satisfied with the color, it matches pretty well.. not 100% tho.
If I can do this all over again, I will spray a few thick coat of paint.

good luck.

If you don't mind waiting a few days for shipping this paint is perfect, they have the clear coat as well!

Is there a special paint I need to buy that won't get damaged by engine heat? This looks like a fun DIY project.

I PM'd buddylok and he said he didn't use anything special and he's had no problems so far. The lady at home depot, however, told me there would be a real chance of the dry paint catching fire because it should not be exposed to temperatures around the 220 Fahrenheit mark and my engine is at 201. That's too close for my book.
