Oshawa Meet and Greet Part Deux...

It is important that you plan on being there on FRIDAY BY NOON if you can get the day off work. That's the day we'll be meeting with the plant employees and throwing them lunch.

"We" are in the process of setting up a date for the 2nd annual Meet and Greet in Oshawa, Ontario (yes, that's Canada where the Camaro is built ).

Several dates are being discussed. Here is where we are so far. Please chime in on what works (or not) for you. Be sure to vote in the poll. Please select ALL the dates you can attend- the poll will allow for multiple answers.

***Note that Sept 4th is now also OUT. It is Labour day also in Canada and the plant is closed 9/3-9/7 so many of the workers will be on vacation.

Looks like June and July is out. This is how it's shaping up so far:

5/15 ok
5/22 ok
5/29 out - Coca Cola 600 in Charlotte

6/5 out- out of town at relatives (Trent)
6/12 out- vacation (Lisa), Ontario Camaro Nationals
6/19 out- B-day for my younger one (Trent)
6/26 out- baseball playoffs start for younger kid (Trent), Carlisle weekend

7/3 ok (but most likely people will have July 4th issues)
7/10 out- plant shutdown
7/17 out- plant shutdown
7/24 out - Vancouver (Hylton)
7/31 out - Vancouver (Hylton)

8/7 out Aruba depart (Trent)
8/14 out Aruba return (Trent)
8/21 ok
8/28 ok

Well as a worker here in Oshawa i'm honoured that the 2nd Meet & Greet is being thought out for 2010 . I'm looking forward to meeting all of you again plus all of the new Camaro owners who have discovered Camaro5 . The weather is much better here in August vs October so i'm leaning for Aug 21st . I hope to shake everyones hand and say Thank You

Being right next door to Oshawa in Ajax, ON we would love to attend! Sometime in August would be best! Nice warm nights usually if there is anything afterward during the day.

Would be great to say hello to the men and women making this great car! Usually we have a few line workers saying hello while driving around town. Would be great to finally meet and greet!

Indiana isnt to far away, oh man i would so want to do this, this is the least i can do for all the hard work you guys put into building my car.
So my questions are, what does this meet and greet involve? Day schedule?

Last year we all met up at the Oshawa Holiday Inn ( www.hioshawa.ca ) on Friday around noon. From there, we went by the plant- plant tours are not allowed (but we're working on that) and continued on to the union hall where we threw a "thank you" buffet luncheon, met a bunch of the plant workers including Mike Judge- Super60- who so graciously bestows the coveted lithographs, met the Mayor of Oshawa, and presented a plaque to the head of the workers union in appreciation for a job well done.

Then we went back to the hotel and got wasted. I think we ate dinner there too.

In any case, the next day it was off to Martin Rea where the Camaro suspensions are made. They threw us lunch, gave us tours, etc- great group of people. Then, late Saturday afternoon, it was homeward bound for the majority of us although a few did stay the extra night in Oshawa.

Keep in mind that FRIDAY is the key day as obviously it's the day the workers are available to meet with us when their shift ends; Saturday is recovery and whatever extra fun we can come up with.

We needed to get a tentative date before anything activity wise could be scheduled.

That said, it appears the weekend of Aug 21st is falling into place quite nicely. I'm going to pencil it in on my calendar as the likely date being that it works well for Mike Judge (Super60) also- that's important.

Nothing is set in stone yet but I don't think it's a bad idea to open up that weekend in our schedules......

Again, plan on arriving either Thursday night or Friday by noon.

More info to follow when available including group package hotel rate(s) including an option for breakfast on Saturday morning, when I get them from the Holiday Inn.

Please keep in mind that the purpose of this event is two-fold.
#1 obviously we get to meet each other
#2 we are there to thank the Oshawa workers for continuing a job well done.

In doing so, we throw them the luncheon. Expect the cost for this to be thousands of dollars- it was last year- and Hylton ate a bunch of the cost that he shouldn't have. We can only ask for "donations" as we don't want it to get in the way of anyone attending but please keep in mind that the ordeal is by no means cheap... Hylton will most likely have another paypal address set up for those who would like to "help the cause" if you know what I mean.
