Am I insane one way or the other??

So without letting too much info out about who my POC's are right now, I am at a crossroads with my 2LT. I have the opportunity to send my 2LT/RS IOM off to a very successful NASCAR race team to get worked over during the first week of May. They were fairly involved during the developement of both the V8's and V6's so it's nothing new to them.

My initial thoughts are:
1) yes, they will most likely void damn near all of the warranty,
2) it's pretty damn sweet as it is right now,
3) it will definately be a unique and most likely a one-off version which= overall value and collectibility of the car
4)it's a chance in a lifetime because its all for FREE.

I immediately want to say "HELL YEAH!" but I'm also leary of the extended issues like maintenance and god forbid, a real problem because there won't be one dealer that will touch it after all this gets done.

I've been told it could include everything from full internals, heads, cam, exhaust, and a completely different brake system however, I haven't committed to pulling the trigger yet. I still need it to be street legal and registerable in the worst of the emission-nazi states because I'm military and move around quite frequently. They claim to have built a V6 already with 475RWHP which to me seems quite high without replacing everything with top of the line parts. Is that even possible with the LLT??

It is my daily driver right now but after this would end up being a weekend/perfect weather day vehicle because I wouldn't want to run the risk of wrecking it. It would basically turn into a show car that I'd run once in a while at the local dragstrip.

What is everyone's thoughts? Am I dumb for not handing them the keys already???

Thanks for your input...

Do it. You can't miss this chance. It's free, rare, and awesome.

In fact, I'll consider infracting you if you don't do this.

Seems like you need more information before a sound decision can be made. Simply turning your car over without knowing exactly what is going to be done is risky. Could work out great but could also turn into something that you don't need.

If they can keep it street legal, I'd say go for it. FREE? Completely? Really?

Your only real downside to doing it is who's going to fix it when you break it and how much is it going to cost?

I think you should let them do my car first. I'll let you know how it works out so you can make an informed decision.

This is a very valid point indeed and you shouldn't chance it. Pm me and I will take the chance for you. Least I could do to protect a fellow Gen5.

Nope Im for turning it over and if you find you cant live with the car after they are done you will most likely make money off the deal. You will have a unique car and it would sell in a heartbeat if you wanted to get rid of it. I would go for it. gl

Thanks for the encouraging words guys! I couldnt offer up another member even if I wanted to. I was pretty sure I was going to let them have it but I still need to find out what they plan to do before anything starts. I'll keep everyone posted with a Build thread when it all kicks off...

I'll come take your car away if you don't do this. With the money you're saving you can easily cover any warranty repairs and still come out on top.

Do you have to sign any waivers? If its promised to come back to you in as good order as you provided it to them in, I'd vote yes. If you have to sign waivers that releases them from any responsibility if bad things happen then I'd vote no. Read the fine print and follow your gut!

OK heres the deal...I'm not just gonna say DO IT!

But DO your homework first? Get a guarantee that your car will return in a well-running, working, street legal manner. Make an agreement...have both parties sign. Ask questions...will your car lose tons of its durability? Wil constant maintance be a reality? What about time-frame? How long will they have to transform your car?

In short..just make sure you've taken care of yourself! After that..only thing is to ask yourself if you can turn lose of the car for that long...and if so. HAVE FUN...YEEEHHHAWWW!!!

There was an SS guy looking for used parts for his Camaro from some shop that left it torn down. CHECK THEM OUT FIRST!
