Tune required?

I have a couple of parts orders on the way and was wondering if I need a tune. A Magnaflow 3" cat-back will be installed first. I will then add Kooks 1 7/8" headers with cats. Last, but not least, will be a C.A.I. intake. Will I need a tune for these mods? If so, can a Predator do the job or should I go to a specialist? Thanks for the help. Bob

If you do this you will void your powertrain warranty on your brand new car. The new global diagnostic system will store the new alternet tune even if you try to flash it back for warranty.

I'm still new to this so, take this for what it's worth, but the CAI really depends on WHICH CAI you get. Some don't seem to make a difference unless you also get a tune, some make a difference but run like crap unless you get a tune.

And my understanding is, if for instance you do the Cold Air Inductions CAI and the American Racing Long Tube headers. You shouldn't NEED a tune. But the performance gains will be greater if you get a tune.

Just at that point you voided your warranty.

As far as I've read installing a CAI/headers doesn't void...I wont say anything, but it wont void much. If your dealer is kinda of...IMHO crappy, they might hassle you about it, and obviously if the headers cause damage, it wont be covered, and the headers themselves wont be covered. But otherwise it SHOULD be down to the dealer having to prove that your mods caused the problem.

Just bear that in mind. If your mods cause damage/problems, the dealer wont be on the hook for it.

Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Like I said, this is just based on my <2 weeks worth of ownership/research.

Sorry, to clarify, it's GM, not the dealer that's on the hook as your warranty is through GM, but the dealer is the gatekeeper, if they auth service GM wont cover, it's out of their pocket. So in a way I kinda understand the somewhat strict nature.

To answer the original question as soon as you install the high flow cats you will need a tune to shut of the check engine light you are gonna get sooner or later. Most CAI dont require a tune but to get the maxium gains from your combined mods you will want a tune. As far as who's tune to use that is just a matter of personal prefference.

So even if the car is flashed back to the factory settings, it will STILL show up some type of way? Darn.

You WILL need a tune to get the most out of these parts, however it is not mandatory that you get the tune. If you don't you will be leaving hp on the table though.

Adding just a CAI you should be fine.
Adding Long tube headers you should be fine.
But when you combine a CAI and Longtube headers you should get a tune. The combination can cause your A/F to be out of wack.

Exhaust and a CAI do not warrant a new tune. There is a good chance you'll do more damage than good.
