Torque Converter Removal Help - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

First let me apoligize for asking this question in a Camaro forum.
I do own a 2010 SS btw, I love it...................
A buddy of mine just gave me a 1995 GMC K1500 4x4. There is a good chance it needs a new torque converter. Can someone tell me whats involved in replacing one. I take it the entire transmission needs to be removed, am I correct?. Thx in advance, Rich

pretty much.

disconnect the driveshaft.
put a jack to hoist the tranny
unplug any wires connected to it
unbolt it from the engine
unbolt the tranny crossmember
lower the tranny
pull and replace TC
and then reverse!

It will be a decent chunk of change to have it done. Out of curiosity, what makes you think it needs a TC?
