Engine light on

Hey guys I have had a new era cia for 2 of the 3 thousand miles on my car. I let my girlfriend drive it to work the other day and when I got in it today my engine light was on. I went to the auto store and they said the light was on because the car was running lean. The car was low on gas when i got in it and she probly was driving like me. Befor I put on the stock intake and take her in does anyone know if this will go away? Im thinking it was probly do to the low fuel level in the car.

Running lean has nothing to do with the fuel level, it may be a problem with the MAF being dirty or something like that but not the amount of fuel in the tank. Good idea on switching the after market intake, when it was put on someone may have unknowingly done something that finaly showed up.

As stated above, it has nothing to do with fuel level. The CAI is flowing more air than the ECM can compensate for. You can continue to drive it to see if it can "relearn" sufficiently (be mellow as running lean can lead to detonation). Some cars take over 100 miles to "relearn".

Or, you can have it tuned or use a hand-held tuner as their tunes are more aggressive on fueling and can help compensate.

Do you have an oiled filter? If yes, check if your MAF is gummed up. Other than that, check all the connections on your piping and make sure nothing is loose. If you are sucking air from anywhere other than the filter, the change of air pressure and turbulence that a loose fitting creates can throw the light.

Other than that, did she fill it up? Maybe she put in cheap (Not Premium) gas. If she did, drain the tank and premium it up.

Before you bother with the dealer, if all that other stuff doesn't work, pull your fuses for the night and see what happens in the morning.

It could be your CAI system, is it both banks that's throwing codes? that's the problem I had , until i switched to a better CAI system.

is the CAI your only mod? What code(s) were thrown? Did you clear them?

You most likely need a tune to go with that intake.

I believe New Era Intakes are known for needing a tune. I don't know that for a fact, I've just heard it through word of mouth.

If I recall the New Era required a tune for best results.

Yep. Some have been good without tunes, others have required them with that intake. Only from what I've read, a majority have been somewhat tempermental without a tune.

Well the light went out the day after this post and hasnt been back on sense. the error codes said both banks went lean. I know its due to the intake but I just find it odd that it has not done with in 3 thousand miles until the car was punched while near empty and after a refill and a few miles it goes away.

You've probably just been running stats right outside the parameters of a CEL. Shitty gas with heavy running conditions probably put it over the edge in the higher power band. Better gas afterwards with modest driving behavior dropped it back down under the threshold and it went off. Just my best guess.
