Anybody remember the "H.O." series Z28's???

I believe they were released in either 83 or 84. My Dad bought a brand new black one when I was 8 years old and he was 33, now I have a black SS and I'm 33...kinda cool in a nostalgic way.

Anyway, does anyone know exactly what engine upgrades the H.O. series camaro came with back in the day? I know there must be some members here who rocked an H.O. back then!

In mid-1983, GM introduced the L69. The L69 is the H.O. engine you are talking about. The L69 is an upgraded version of the LG4 but with flat topped pistons, a better camshaft, two air intake snorkels, a wider exhaust system, the wider catalytic converter from the Corvette, a 9.5:1 compression ratio instead of 8.6:1, richer secondary metering rods, blah blah blah... I think you get the point. It was only offered in 1983, 1984, limited production in 1985, and 74 made for racing in 1986, but 11 were made for the public.
If you read my sig, details, and username you can tell I have one.

1984 Z28 HO

I have one too. Handles great! Maybe better than my new 2010 SS? Not much for horsepower but a blast to drive. The HO package was pretty cheap for what it added. I think it was around $750.

i've got magazine articles on it. It doesn't sound like much now ( it was 200 HP if you put in premium) but from where they were coming in the 70s and early 80s it was a big jump back to being somewhat quick.

I had a blue 84 Z-28 that had the 5.0 HO. Only thing I remember about it is that it had the Rochester quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor.

L69

My brother had an '84 Denim blue L69 Monte Carlo SS. Great performance for the time period.

You know why they made the H.O. don’t you? Because a Ho needs transportation too!

Had a red '84 L69 Z28, auto with the 3.73's and the hideous, but cool for the time, "camaro" labeled velour interior lol.. had "Camaro" on the seats over and over and the door panels, in black over red and orange inserts..have to scan the pics in and post them.

That car was damn quick for what it was. I used to beat my friend's 5.7 GTA, any Monte SS i cam across (back then modded was someone grenading a motor with a 100 shot.) I used to take out 5.0 TPI Iroc-Z's left and right and even a friend's '89 5.0 5spd LX vert, even after he put 3.73's in it (then he put a vortech on it and we know how that went). The car went a best of 14.6x bone stock down to the filter at E-town i want to say it went 91mph?? It usually ran 14.8-14.9, in the heat. I blew the rear end up at 75k or so and then for a short time ran 2.73 rear i got from a junkyard that was out of a T/A.. THEN... I put 4.10's in it and screwed everything up lol. I lost 2 tenths with those gears, was overgeared for the big 190hp..

I was ejected from another friend's '84 L69 after we hit a pole at 65mph, sideways.. Thre weeks in the hospital and a visit from an eyewitness, my doctor lol. he said if we were wearing seatbelts we would have died as the pole spilt and the power line went right into the car through the t-tops that blew off on impact set the whole damn thing on fire. hahahaha memories.. Top it off i was only 17 (my birthday none-the-less) and my parents SUCKED and didn't sue.. I'd have a 20yo callaway Vette right now lol...

Also, my cousin bought a brand new black '84 like the pic above, that's why a few years later bought mine.. should've bought a GN instead

I can't believe how many L69 stories i have

check this out..

I had a '84 Z28 H.o. 5 speed. It was a great car but i had lots of problems with it. had to get the TSB intank fuel pump because it vapor locked so bad.
Car would run. I think it was faster than my '87 IROC TPI 5 spd car.
There are those that say that it didn't have 190hp that it had closer to 205-215. The camshaft was a L83 from the Corvette and with the 3.73s it would 0-60 in less than 7 seconds.

lmao My slo 5.0 would've smoked that Formula! My friend used to shit when i would take him by 1.5-2 cars in his red GTA 5.7. Funny you say Formula reminds me of a 5.0 Formula that used to beat me and him. Kid with his girlfriend '88 maybe? i think it was brand new and he used to get me out of the hole by a fender and i could never take it back? must of had the better rear end because it was faster than the 5.7 GTA which made no sense.. Holy SHIT i just remembered another dozen races with that H.O. lol...

i actually rerouted the fuel line to the carb and insuated it because it would BOG at WOT after sitting on a hot day.. Lost a couple races and finally figured it out. What a POS
