Header question

Ok we pretty much all know that if you put on long tubes you need to do a tune or it will cause the check engine light to come on. We all know that a tune will void your warranty and most accept that as par for the course and could care less. My question is that once you put long tubes on and tune will you pass an emissions test? I believe some have said you could fail a visual inspection but if they just plug in and run it will it detect somethings not right or will the tune adjust it so the emissions machine detects no problems? Eventually I'll be getting headers either shorties now or LT's when my warranty is toast, but if they will fail it (the long tubes) I'm not gonna even bother. Whats the point if you can't drive it on the street right? Also I know the jury's out on weather shorties help or even hurt so don't even go there. I'm more concerned with the long tubes.

Mods: BBK Intake, BBK LT's and High Flow Cats, Corsa Cat-back exhaust, Hurst short throw shifter, SLP skip-shift eliminator.

Depends on what type of emissions test they do. If they do the sniffer test it will pass if you drive it for 20-30 minutes and get the cats good and hot first. If they do the code test (where they plug in and check for any codes related to the cats) you will fail. Getting a tune makes it so you pass both tests.

I have Dynatech Headers and no tune and have never had a CEL come on!

Even the install instructions from Dynatech said you will not have a check engine light after install.

RamAir, If they're long tubes the light will come on eventually. My G8 went 3 months before I saw it.

V6Sonoma, A savy tuner can get you through the inspection without issue. Most mod friendly dealers won't void you warantee because of tuning.
