tsears: 2SS/RS Build - AKA: War Machine

edit:

Decided to christen my car War Machine in honor of my avatar.

Relentless, Invincible..

So I ordered some parts today for my CGM 2SS/RS A6

ARH exhaust package (LT's, Cats, X-Pipe)
Haltech Yellow Jacket CAI
FAST LXR 102mm intake manifold
SCT Tuner
Eibach Pro-kit springs

I'm going to use the stock mufflers since I don't want to attract CHP.

Will take some pics of the parts and of the car when it's all said and installed.

Hey TSears, where are you getting your work done in SD? Installing everything yourself or at a shop?

Will the LSX intake manifold and ARH package pass smog?

Smog?! eff a smog!... haha.. no on a serious note, I still debating on doing the work myself of having Greg @ Mustangs and Motorsports..

The ARH and LSXR will not pass smog, but I have 5 years before all that happens.

Here's the plan:

Okay so in talking to a few guys over in the "I love turbo" thread I've decided to revive this thread in hopes of getting a general input on my build. I've decided on a TT setup that will be engineered for maximum driveability and road race/dragstrip applications. Here's the breakdown:

Okay here's the initial plan. Feel free to make suggestions. I've got about 15-20k to spend TOTAL.

  • 408 - 416 stroker based off my L99 (I'm thinking more along the 408, don't think I'll be needing 416ci)
  • Forged bottom and lower compression pistons (options?)
  • Some sort of dual fuel pump (options??)
  • Keep the camshaft in place in there now (223/231 115LSA)
  • Keep LS3 Conversion w/DOD delete
  • TT kit with upgraded ball bearing turbos (Granatelli, Hellion. Options? Experiences? PM me)
  • Upgraded intercooler
  • Whiteline suspension / KW Variant Clubsport coils (Options?)
  • 1000HP DSS axles
  • Upgrade transmission with Altco clutch packs
  • Keep TCI Streetfighter Torque Convertor
  • A few other odds and ends... (18" DD wheels with the widest tire available, boost controller, etc)

In talking to a few other people here, I want three things.

1. I have a fetish for smoking exotics.

2. Enough control and power to road race / drag race on the weekends.

3. Driveability, Driveability, Driveability. This may end up being my DD.

Like I said before 15-20K max including suspension and wheels. I'll have some stuff to sell off during the build - Longtubes, CAI, x-pipe???? so I'll get a few bucks back that way.

let me know what you guys suggest.

P.S. Play Nice. I don't want this turning into a he said / she said debate.

I only understood half of what you said ,but I like the idea of a TT setup. One low and one high to eliminated lag?

Nah, twin 60-ish mm. They should be good enough for low lag operations.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and do either the 416 or 418, you're not adding very much money to the build, but you are building in torque.

For the TT, I like the TTi kit and the IPS kit. Either of those would fit the bill. I think the IPS 76 & 82mm turbos would give you the best of both worlds with the extra CI. I think the smaller 62mm turbos would run out of gas too soon. I could be wrong, but that is where my head is at currently.

I'm looking at the M6 version of this currently. You may want to talk to CMS if this is something you are close to ready for.

Some sort of dual fuel pump ADM ONLY
Keep LS3 Conversion w/DOD delete Yup
TT kit with upgraded ball bearing turbos IPS/TTi
Whiteline suspension / KW Variant Clubsport coils BC Coilovers

These are the biggies that I would go with:

Suspension suspension suspension.
Control arms, end links, bushings and sway bars.
DSS 1000+ hp axles

This is pretty much where my head is at. I've got to do the clutch where you'll be going converter, but pretty much the same build ideas.

Good luck

Are we talking the first or the second set...

I have the ball bearing turbo's... 62/65's...

I have the Lingenfelter Dual fuel pumps and the KB BAP.... Running 93 lb/hr injectors we haven't found the end of the fuel yet... Still on a conservative tune and 12 lbs of boost...

I'd like to stay around 10-12 psi. I'm keeping the aluminum block so I don't want to punch holes somewhere where it's not needed. LOL.

Forgot to add in axles. - 1000hp DSS axles should be fine.

If I hit less that my estimated HP goals, that is fine. I'm not looking for a dyno queen, as long as it meets my three directives I can accommodate.

I've actually talked to CMS today about it. Ryne and Mike did my cam and are also installing the TCI Torque Convertor. Ryne has also been my primary tuner. This build will probably revolve around him and Mike's expertise along with third party vendors and members of Camaro 5.

Can't wait to get this started. From my experience as an IT professional it's always been about planning, planning, planning. So as long as the groundwork is good then the build should be good.

Sure thing. BMW thought it reduced lag and I owned the 335i, it seemed to work.

Those 335i's are quick. Heavily detuned from the factory. A good retune and some downpipes make those cars quick on the cheap!

Yes! I like mine a lot ,but had to have the Camaro so off it went. Was at CMS today and saw some sick stuff that made me think.

I knew you replaced the turbo's but I thought you put the same ones back in. What is the top end on the 62/65's? I thought they would be maxing out at a lower RPM with the larger CI motor pushing them. I may have to rethink my plan. I want to be right about where you're at with Brandi. One of these days. Are you feeling better? How's the leg?

Ryne was trying to get the rights to a certain TT kit that another shop "developed" but wasn't able to. He has done my tuning as well as several others in the area. I'm in the shop once a week trying to figure out how I'm going to do my build. I'm leaning toward the TTi kit again now that I know what size turbo's are on SSE 4 2SS and seeing his results.

Ryne's engine builder is pretty good, but I keep reading up on the engine building that Texas Speed is doing and I'm torn. I'd like to support the local guys, but I also want the car perfect. I'm not sure how it would work having another shop do a TSP install either if something went south.

I'm looking at the FAST 102, TT setup, either ported heads or complete set of aftermarket heads, 416 or 418 forged motor, just enough to make my wife cringe and hate the car that much more.

I'm leaning towards Hellions kit. Ryne talked to me about that kit too. I think the developer was on here trying to sell the kit. My car is in right now. It's the CGM L99. The transmission should be out now and being sent to Extreme Transmissions in LA for the rebuild. Once I get the funds it will be sent over to Rossler for an upgrade. Mike and I talked about the 6L80 and he said it would be better to change it out completely but I don't think I'll have the funds to switch over to a 6060 if I want to go forged 416. I think Rynes engine build is JR and he is damn good.

I just sold the Fast 102 and got a ported manifold instead. Way more responsive. I'll probably look at some heads as well. Maybe MAST or something.

Maybe we can get a deal from Ryne for doing 2 TT Camaros! LOL.
