Both are noticeable improvements. The sound is dramatically different. I've put 7000 miles on the car with just the DT Catback, so I know how this car sounds. The headers really changed things. It's actually quieter at cruising speeds and the rasp I would sometimes get around 4500 rpm is basically gone. I would describe the sound as smooth.

It's not boomy or intrusive in the cabin, but it roars when you step on it. I made a little video that gives a sense of it. If anyone knows how to embed this, please do:

As for the power, there is a difference. The dyno shows about a 8-14% gain in torque. I'd say that's about what if feels like. 10% isn't overwhelming but it is noticeable. If I had a Dashawk, I suspect I'd have dropped at least a 10th of my 0-60 time.

I did do a run on the on-ramp from 0-70. Usually when I punch it, the tires chirp a bit before they catch. This time, I heard them rotate on the pavement. It sounded like pulling a single sheet of paper out of a pack and the car slid over a bit before it caught pavement.

So, the sound is fantastic (to my ears). The power increase is there. I wish I could confirm it on the track, but the nearest one is an hour away. Hopefully I'll be able to afford another dyno run after I get my intake replaced.

Great video, thanks! It sounds really good. Do you have any pics of the headers?

I had the JBA shortys listed on the V6 exhaust sticky thread, so I thought these deserved a place there as well! Added!

Thanks John for the info.

sounds nice!

the dyno guy wasn't very consistant in his starting and ending the dyno sampling at the same rpms, this is why you're seeing a variance in start end rpms on your graph, it's a shame, that would give a better measure of comparable hp/trq #'s side by side. I bet you gained all the way up, just looks like they got off the gas at 6kish and you see the decline on the dt run. congrats on the gains! how much were the headers/cats?

how was the install? I am guessing you would take the cat and downpipe out and weld them to new headers and then put it back in as one unit?

I've only got about 75 miles on it since I picked it up Saturday, but so far no CEL. That 75 miles did include some "testing", i.e. me driving too fast to see how it sounded and a couple WOT launches. So it has been under pressure and so far so good.

I reset the avg mileage today and so far I'm getting 2 full mpgs better, from 17.8 avg to just over 20 avg. We'll see if that lasts once I punch it on a few more on-ramps.

Wish I could tell you. I left the car up in Corona at DTH for a couple days so they could fit it into their schedule. I picked it up Sat. morning and it was done. Not sure if they welded first or after. Jamie @ DT does this sort of thing all day long so I'm guessing this was a piece of cake for him.

So correct me if I'm wrong but since these are welded on, there should be much less chance of the leak thats causing the CEL for almost everyone else right? I have been holding off on headers because of the CEL but if this addresses the issue.....hmm

John,

Great pic of the header on the car. They look Great!

Are these Aluminum headers that are ceramic coated?
Would love to see how they welded the collector to the down pipe. Does the shop have any pics of the install?

Cats are stock. Headers are about $490 for the set. You can check the price on the Doug Thorley website here.

Yes, they are ceramic coated. In fact this is the only way they are available.

Are they aluminum? ...

[On second thought, I think the aluminum-like appearance is actually the silver ceramic coating which is on the inside and outside of these. These are steel I believe.]

I have a few buddies with JBA's on their 3.6L's, and they don't have any check engine lights. I think if they are installed correctly you will see NO CEL's.

The DT's look pretty nice in the picture.

In my case it was free. I was the R&D car for the headers and catback.

Wish I could give you more details on the install, but I was home working in Huntington Beach when these were being installed up in Corona. If you have specific questions, you can call Nick at DTH.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I had said earlier somewhere in this thread that they were coming and would be available soon. Well, they're here. I got an e-mail from DTH today saying that the current batch of headers should be avail. for shipping by Thursday or Friday of this week.

Hey fellas! I need to spend some more time over here on the V6 thread.

Check it out:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...stall%2Freview

This is my install/review for the LS3 car. Not much different at all considering they are almost identical setups.

Correct in as if they are installed tightly, then there should not be any CEL activity.

Remember, you are not changing the positions (distance away from the motor) of the Catalytic Converters so there should not much concern over the CEL.

Now, can it come on? Sure...

Have I seen it happen yet? No...

With that said, they are the best bang for the buck when it comes to Shorties.

Great thread discussion guys. Thanks Jon for your efforts as well.

Thanks for that Info Ivan. You are quicker to respond than either calling Doug Thorley, or E-Mailing them. Still waiting for responses back from them. Not sure why calling didn't work yesterday....Didn't think it was a holiday in California! LOL!
