Ride quality V6 vs V8

I have a question for everyone that's been in both.

I haven't had the opportunity to actually drive a camaro yet (there just aren't any out by me). I would like to get an SS but I desire comfort over performance when driving (my V6 G8 just glides over the road).

Is the SS ride much more harsh because of the stiffer suspension?

SS is a pretty stiff ride. It can get bumpy depending on the road. (Not as bad as some other cars I've driven though)

The Camaro all together, starting with the V6, is stiffer in feel than a typical G8. We have a 2LT Camaro RS V6 with the 20's and I had a G8 GT upgraded to GXP/FE3 slightly firmer dampers all around, and while rode great, the G8 always "enveloped" bumps smoother and felt more settled while the Camaro bounces more and just feels stiffer.

The difference V6 to V8 Camaro is marginal, and offset some by the extra weight of the V8 on the nose of the SS. It's a great combo of very firm but supple ride and handling for either, but just not as settled or "glide" smooth all around as a larger G8 is stock. Not 110% dramatically different, but notably different back to back. The overall package/shape/interiors of each contribute to the feel also, when you're inside.

Thanks guys, it didn't even occur to me to consider this before getting a camaro until I road in a buddy's GT. That thing rode worse than my truck does.

bout the only thing i don't like about the ride is no lumber support i wish we could have had someway to adjust the seats. otherwise the ride is great i have the 2lt rs a6 and when coming out of a corner it dosen't push as bad as the 2ss rs a6, so getting on and off the highway is a little different (really just marginal). you have to be really pushing the car to even notice it. the other thing is i wish we could have had the option for the brembo's as some of us push the limits of our cars.

I see you have a G8. Your G8 will ride a lot smoother than the Camaro. My Camaro SS has a fairly stiff ride. It's not uncomfortable by any means, but its fairly stiff.

I had two GTOs (05 and 06) and they had a smoother ride. The seats were also softer and more supportive which also made the ride smoother. The GTO seats are some of the best seats out there.

So I would definately test drive a Camaro.

Last year a good friend of mine bought a new Corvette. He only kept it for a few months, because he hated the ride quality. He was used to drivng cars like the SL550. So now he's thinking about getting another SL.

I just sold my G8 GXP and got a 2SS LS3. The Pontiac ride was a lot less harsh than the SS, but the handling in the Camaro is better.

I personally don't mind the hard ride, but some do not like it.

Life is full of compromises!

The SS is noticeably stiffer than the V6. However, having driven all flavors, you will notice an increase in stiffness with the V6 as you go to 19" wheels and then even more if you get an RS package with the 20" wheels. But I've driven the SS on many long road trips (Detroit to Valdosta last week) and I find the SS supremely comfortable. But that is like most things, just one mans opinion.

I miss the seats from my GTO, I wish I had kept the seats to put into the Camaro.

the v6 is noticeably smoother. you feel most most bumps with the 8...but the power is intoxicating!
