Red face A/C not cooling? Anyone else have this issue.

When the A/C is turned on and set to cool no cold air comes. The car is only a month old. The service guy told me this is a common problem. Anyone else have this issue?

They told me its the A/C compressor not responding.

I had the problem only after a long road trip in 90+ degree weather.
I brought it in today and the service guy said if he can't see it in action,
it isn't broken.

Did it blow cold air at the dealer. My A/C seemed that it was just running on fan and blowing warm air from outside.

Mine was blowing cold air this morning. I only had the problem after a long road-trip
(10+ hours) and virtually no air was coming out of any of the vents, even with the fan
on high.

I think our problems are different. Sounds like your compressor isn't working right...
if it's reproducible, bring it to the dealer by all means...

Thx for that last post. I had the correct settings. So i hope that once they replace the part it wont turn into a recurring problem.

Also make sure that the HVAC has the lastest software installed. The last update had a fix for "HVAC evaporator freeze-up". It should have been done with 09207A if you had that done. If you want PM me the last 8 of your vin and I can check if that was done .

I have taken mine in two times due to a/c issues. already having problems again with warm air coming out when the a/c is on - usually on the hottest days. strange hissing sounds coming from under the dash when running the a/c and a sick putrid smell entering the cabin - makes me want to gag.
vin number 16408 - SS - not sure if i have a lemon or what but this is starting to really irritate me.

took it in 2 months ago and figured the a/c system wasn't properly charged out of the factory, no big deal...they fully charged it and also added some dye in case i had a recurring leak issue and needed to come back. One month later - almost to the day - same issue. Brought it back, almost empty again. they found no traces of a leak anywhere despite the dye. said they would like to keep it overnight. ok, fine. next day they call me and say they regret to inform me they were unable to find the leak and i could leave it there longer or pick it up. basically, there was nothing they could do. so i picked her up and said see ya next month. it's been 2 weeks since then...and it's happening again. i'm going to give it a little while and see what happens before i return to the dealer. i hope they can fix this problem. not having the a/c sucks, but being gassed with the sick smell - that's just not cool (no pun intended).

This is not the way to locate a leak, it could be leaking in an area that cannot be seen , like around the evaporator, they should have used an electronic detector which can detect very small leaks, I might try and take it to a different dealer.

Just got a call from the chevrolet service dept, it appears they found the leak - evaporator core. They have the part on order but it won't arrive until next week.
He informed me they would need to remove the entire front windshield, and then take
apart everything just to get to it and this means I'm stuck in a rental until end of next
week at minimum. meanwhile...i'm stuck driving a F&^%$ng HHR clown car...
i don't like the idea of them taking apart my car - but i need the problem fixed...so i guess i have no choice but to deal with it.

I have similar problem, mine will get cool whenever it's turned on, however for a new car it's should be much cooler. Any clues with that issue

It seemed that every time the California Heat got around 90 degrees, the a/c would just blow hot air. I tried all the tricks with the knobs and switches but nothing worked. If you
are having this problem I would take it in - it's under warranty.
We'll see how she works when i get her back in 1-2 weeks - or whenever.
I just remember when i first got this car, it had the coldest a/c i had ever experienced.

I guess this is what happens when you pre-order a car, you get early production where all the kinks haven't been worked out.

My AC unit never cooled properly since day 1 on my SS however I lived with it that way. Also when idling, the power to the AC unit would fluctuate. I bet mine had a bad compressor too...
