I think Chevy just lost me on the SS... V6 for me.
First let me say that I wanted the SS Camaro all along, but due to recent poor decisions in my opinion I think I'll be getting the V6...1. No blue in SS? Why not?!? Seeing as that it also makes a blue interior ambient lighting unavailable, only the V6 has the Aqua Blue Metallic and the blue ambient lighting. 2. Why did they change the front end from the concept on the SS so much? In my opinion, while the SS looks more aggressive, the V6 looks more aerodynamic and, from a design perspective, much cleaner in terms of looks. I think the perfect car for me would be an Aqua Blue Metallic Camaro with the V8 and the V6's front end. Anyone else having the same thoughts, possibly with the royal blue as well?Unfortunately everything is justifying the V6 right now... 6.1 sec 0-60 compared to 4.7 for the V8, less than 1.5 sec difference can be made up with basic bolt-on mods for cheaper than the V8. The DI 300HP V6 is looking quite nice.. Lower price, lower insurance And then my preference on color/design. :( Looks like Chevy just lost a few thousand, and I lost a V8 |

This goes for everyone, can we give GM a little more time to explain before everyone gets themselves all freaked out.

Not to be rude, but I don't know what explaining will do. Unless they change their color setup and I decide to live with the SS front fascia, I don't see this problem being resolved for me at least. And, I wasn't freaked out, but like many people here, this is my dream car and I'm sure that just like me, everyone has very specific dreams

Either way, getting the V6 is certainly not a bad choice! But do hang on to that thought of an SS if that's what you really want...the issues you bring up can still change come ordering time. |

Lol, you think you can make up for the power of the LS3 with basic bolt ons? You are gonna be in for a shock my friend. Thats roughly a 25% decrease in time and 120+ horsepower you will have to makeup. Bolt ons may net you 20 hp outa that V6 if your lucky.

Heh, Procharger's a bolt-on, if they do one for the V6, it should be less expensive than the price difference between LT and SS.
Edit: Yup, as headpunter said. I pretty much had procharger's in mind when I made that comment. |

Don't forget that upgraded Brembo brakes, or some other manufacturer, are going to cost you plenty. You don't even get an LSD with the V6 to handle all that power you plan to add? Adding all that with what you plan to spend on bolt-ons, and you will probably be over the cost of an SS.
As for lower insurance, most have a spot to list aftermarket add-ons if you want them insured in the event of an accident. Insuring them is going to cost you. |

I missed that one.
That helps a little, but like what's been said unless you bolt on a supercharger or turbo, it's going to be hard to get to 400 to 422hp. You must really like that color a lot, but if it's that important to you, definitely go with your gut feelings. Because after all, you are not buying a toaster, but rather an expensive car, and you don't want buyer's remorse afterwards.

i am very dissapointed in this as well.
I fought with myself for months over the colors i liked, finally deciding on Imp. blue w/ white rally stripes... only to find out its not offered. I may have to go Black w/ cyber gray stripes. |

Don't forget the SS also nets you an FE3 suspension, brembo brakes, fluid coolers, upgraded rubber, and sport and launch modes for the electronic nannies. Now you're right that the V6 is an entirely acceptable performer, but the SS is also so much more than just 100 extra horsepower.
And personally, I'll take the improved aerodynamics and aggressive looks of the SS front fascia any day.

Also, the transmissions in the SS are built stronger to handle the extra power it has stock as well as what buyers plan to add in the aftermarket.

I dunno what cars you're used to modding but making a car go from 0-60 1.5 seconds faster is no small feat. What are you going to bolt onto it? A couple of turbo chargers? You get your V6 and report back here when you shave 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 time and make the thing run low 13s in the 1/4. A member here was talking about buying a V6 model and twin turbocharging it just to make it hit 13s. I thought it was a stupid idea to invest so much money just to get to 13s when there's a V8 model that'll do it right off the shelf. But at least he was realistic about what he'd have to do to make it go that fast.
Not to mention the differences in brakes and suspension tuning. The brakes are Brembos which are pretty badass. If you were to buy a set of those yourself, it'd be around 3 or 4 grand just for the fronts. At least that's the price for the GTO. And keep in mind that the V6 may handle admirably, you'll have to spend a lot of money to get it to come close to SS handling limits. And as for the color, I'm with you. It's a bummer they don't offer blue. It was never my choice, but I think it's weird that they would lead us to believe that those colors from the chart they posted would be available on all models then say that blue will not. The front end on the V8 looks great if you ask me. But this is the only valid reason you've given for going with a V6. And i still don't think it's that great a reason to sacrifice all the things the V8 will give you. But looks are important. So just keep all that other stuff in mind. And keep this in mind too. If you think the V6 will be plenty fast... DON'T TEST DRIVE A V8. If the performance is a factor at all in your decision, driving the SS will only make it harder to settle for the V6. |

Heh, I agree. I recently drove the DI 3.6 CTS, and I was pretty impressed with it. The power was there, and it sounded pretty good when I got on it. Then I drove an '06 6.0L GTO and had my head snap back from the acceleration. It is so hard to go back to 300 horses after you've tasted 400+.

Kdbolt: I agree. With near 3800 pounds of heft to haul around, 300hp from a V6 won't be able to move the car the way 400 hp from a V8 would. There's too much weight. And now that performance cars are expected to do 0-60 in around 5 seconds, 6 will feel like an eternity. Especially when lined up against a Mustang GT or something like a 350Z. You'll be looking at tail lights. Not that it's a huge deal. But if you were at anytime considering a V8 for performance, you'll be disappointed when you buy a V6 and can't beat anything in a drag race. |
