Dissapointed WTF !? Cam swap dyno #s

Here you go , third sheet stock vs CAI , then after cam install , car is presently bone stock except for cam and air intake .
Present cam is Comp 224/242 .610/.612 115+3 .
The first sheet was our best pull 404 ft lbs and 420 hp . ( 1ft lb less than stock + 26 hp from stock ) We encountered wheel hop when things warmed up so WOT on this sheet was at about 4000 revs . Second sheet is cai only vs cai and cam only .
I've got 1 7/8 long tube headers/HF cats ready to install but I think I may have to lose 5 - 10 degrees on the cam and go to a 112/113 lc .
Opinions please .

What I find strange is your baseline looks extremely high for a stock LS3. Were any mods done to it? Were the numbers from the first run corrected? If so were the second done the same way or not?

Also you did a cam without supporting mods (headers, etc)? I'm just wondering why you didn't have the headers installed along with the cam and then get everything tuned. That would really affect your numbers.

The cam is not the problem, you did everything backwards. Should of installed the exhaust and other bolt ons first.

I would like to know where you bought your car to have over 400hp @rw. Most I've seen so far was in the mid 70's. Mine was 363 rwhp.

Correct , backasswards because every one does it the other way and I wanted to provide you all with some accurate , real data from a vehicle owned by a guy that's not trying to sell you anything , just giving FREE data .

Forget the #'s , just look at the gains / losses .
I claim nothing , I'm just providing unbiased data . Same dyno , same operator , same corrected #'s .
Remember I own the car and I'm not trying to sell you a tune , headers , cam etc. by providing fluffed #'s or skewed data .
See my avatar .
Monday Dynatechs and cats go on then I'll post new results for your review .

Craaaaaaaaaaaaaanston! lol You gonna bring it out to A&W on Tuesday so I can look at all those nice new toys of yours. Strange results though. Could it be that the tune was originally optimized for the CAI and now that you have the cam perhaps it's not the ideal tune anymore. I would say install what ever else you plan (headers, exhaust, etc.) than do a tune. That would be the simplest option.

Why do people say "presently bone stock EXCEPT cam and blah blah blah"?

That's like saying I don't have any dogs except those two huskies or something along those lines. lol

I'm done now.

You'll see me there soon , with two young ones time is tight .
It's great I gained 26 hp from intake only and 42 hp over stock , what bothers me is losing 15 ft lbs where you need it in everyday driving .
The tune is close but we are having some low rpm light throttle surge issues , my guy has tuned a bunch of LS1 cars , he says the LS3 system is different I'm sure he'll figure it out .
Monday I'm going to install the headers and cats then go from there . Maybe a little tuning along with the headers will get the torque back .

Baseline would be acceptable since dude is at lower elevation I'd say.

Sorry OP, but this guy right here is now the cause for me to have to run out and get a new keyboard in the morning. Dr Pepper everywhere from my laughing at this....it was funny and unexpected. Not that I neccessarily agree or disagree with you but it was really halarious. Nice.

Hi Ivan , I'm going to get it dynoed asap , the headers are a simple enough job so hopefully I go back next Sat . and yes I'm at sea level .

Exactly what I googled...lol...saw where your town was and went "no doubt!"

People don't realize the difference.

I tell people "try living at over 6000 ft"...cars that run 13's and 14's around here are FAST! lol Or should I say that backwards?....

At any rate, totally looking forward to seeing the new numbers. Enjoy the install...easy stuff for ya!

Well first off, they are using a dynopack dyno, which bolts to the wheel hubs..so these are not "dyno jet" numbers.

This dyno bolts to the hubs, and does not have rollers.

I am not sure how you can have "wheel hop" with a dyno like this.

I don't use this type of dyno in house, but my GTO was tuned one one. One thing I see is that they have 3.42 in for the final drive. I thought is was 3.45. This will throw the numbers off as the dyno uses that to calculate the HP and TQ numbers.

The numbers are on the low end, but no headers and intake is probaly costing you 40HP.

Car wont make power because it cant flow the exhaust out the manifold with a cam that size. You pretty much kill the benefits of flowing more air through your engine without a way to get it out. Put on headers for 60+ whp, no joke
