Which exhaust setup to buy: Down to two!

Ok guys, I need some help on deciding which cat-back to go with for my exhaust. I am wanting to place the order tomorrow or Tuesday and over the past month I have narrowed it down to two. Please help me decide.

Borla ATAK 2.5" system: Slighter higher aggresive tone, 4.5" tips, True X-pipe

MagnaFlow 2.5" 16580: Nice LOW agressive tone, 5" tips, not sure if it is a true x-pipe or not. What is that at the cat end? Resonator? H or X pipe? Can't really tell from the photo or descriptions i've read.

One of those will go on my ride... just need to decide which now.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Tuff choice but I'll tell you the Magnaflow will probably be alot cheaper.

You can get it from MagnaflowPlus.com for about $700 shipped. Don't go by the website....you have to call them and let them know you are from Camaro5.

BTW: that's not the Tru-X pipe it's the resonated X-pipe but it does include an x-pipe.

Thanks caverman!! I was really wondering about that xpipe on the magnaflow. Is it possible to get a tru-X that will bolt right up without welding?

I personally, if I was in your shoes, go with the ATAK. It is a really nice sounding exhaust, and they are a good company. Just my .02, but do what you think is best.

I also had the same problem and Im ordering the magnaflow on tuesday also. Borla is wayyyy to expensive in my opinion and the magnaflow sound is way better and deeper. I feel the ATAK sounds like corsa.

Agreed, but it is such a tough decision. Did you order a tru-x pipe as well or are you sticking with the resonated X?

I have not heard the Magnaflow for myself but I installed the Borla Atak system this weekend and I really like it. Nice deep garble on start up fairly quite when easing down the road but kick it down and it really comes to life. And it only got better after running it through a few heat cycles.

Again its all about what sound you are looking for. Good luck !

If you want the Tru-X instead of the resonated X-pipe then you'll have to make it yourself which is easy enough to do. You just need to find a good local muffler shop to install it all for you. The #16580 system comes with the resonated x-pipe and I'm pretty sure you won't be able to change that. Go through my thread and see what I did and learn from my mistakes. The only difference is you would buy the Tru-X instead of the resonated x-pipe (which is #11386).
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64964

Here is a thread with video from the Tru-X and #11386 along with a muffler delete http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66288

Now....if you don't want to go through the hassle of building one I think I may have found someone that has MagnaflowPlus.com prices beat. Call Jim over at Performance Exhaust Plus. I think he said he could do the #16580 for $650 shipped. You'll have to call him to verify though. Here is his # 1-877-521-0002.

This is GREAT information!! Thank you for taking the time on this Caver! I did receive a PM from Mr. Jim for that price as well just a little bit ago. I will give him a call tomorrow as well as some of the other vendors to check on pricing.

Expect a nasty drone around 1800 RPM with both systems!

The Magnaflow will be cheaper, but remember that Borla is made from higher grade of stainless steel (304 vs 409). Better quality materials = higher cost. There are also a ton of Borla dealers and a lot of competition, so you can definitely get a good deal on the ATAK.

Have you heard this system in person? I assure you it sounds nothing like the Corsa. I don't like the Corsa, but love the ATAK.

I can't speak for the Magnaflow, but the ATAK isn't bad at all. There is a little around the 1800-2000 range, but nothing I'd classify as nasty. I can tell you that the deeper your exhaust is, the more drone you will have. Drone is about resonance, not volume.

I was hoping you would chime in Dangeruss. I wanted to hear from someone who has the ATAK system. Again, great information and since I am looking to make a decision early this week.. I need all I can get!

+1....however both offer that "race car" sound that not many others have or want.

Let us know and good luck to ya!,

I have no drone with my magnaflow. OP i welded in a true x on mine and took out the resonated xpipe. I have the mufflers in the back though and it was too quiet, the true xpipe makes it louder.

Borla, the louder the better, I wish Borla would make a 3 inch system.

I am going to do exactly what you did, except with the Magnaflow 16580 cat-back system, and try it out. If I want it louder I will spend the $80 and get the tru-x. I figure this is the best way for me to handle it at this point. Who knows, I may love the resonated X-pipe that comes with the 16580. Espcially since I am adding the CAI intake as well. I will be sure to keep everyone updated!

now... to find the best price!

The S-type is more your street kit... a little bit louder than stock but not enough for me. It is a good kit though.
