your first mod should be moving out of california, once that mod is done then all other mods will be super easy

Staying emissions-legal in CA is more about where you go for inspection and smog and less about what you have on your car.

Short story is that long-tube headers are not going to pass visual inspection because they relocate the cats. That's the main problem. A really big cam is probably also not going to pass smog if you're in a smog problem county like LA, Riverside, etc. Don't quote me on that. Everything else, superchargers included, would be ok unless you're a stickler for CARB, which I'm not. Don't quote me on that either.

If you're terrified of emissions and cops and warranties and what-not, then there isn't much you're going to be able to put on the car... hope this helps.

what mods are you wanting to do? once you figure that out then people on here will be able to point you in the right direction. i know if you go to some websites that sell aftermarket parts they will tell you if that part is legall in california

Any supercharger with a CARB E.O.# is legal in California so I would say a supercharger wouild be the best mod.

CA does not require you to smog your car for the first 5 years from original date of sale, and only every other year after that. What I have always done... keep the OEM parts in the garage and swap before smog, then put your mods back on after you pass.

If you get pulled over, most cops won't know what is stock or not, even then, I believe each infraction is only a $10 fix-it ticket.

This type of response gets thrown out a lot on this forum. One, it does not help the OP and, two, some people like living in California. I do.

Superchargers are legal (if they have a CARB or EO number)

Most shorty headers are just as illegal as Long tubes so feel free for those.

Exhaust is pretty much open, so long as it doeesn't exceed 97 or 107 decibels (I forget which is the legal limit)

In my opinion, for street use, torque is king, so you'll want longtubes or a top mount supercharger or both for the best performance, as well as drop springs and some bushings. Otherwise intake and exhaust will give you a little bit of sound and performance. Wheels and lowering the cars stance will give you the most obvious cosmetic upgrades. It really just depends on what you're going for.

Here are three things I about California:

1...The Weather ~

2...The Land ~

3...Uh, wait a minute, let me try that again.

1...The Weather ~

2...The Land ~

3...Damn! I guess there's only two?! (Maybe it is time to move....)

Unfortunately, this is a thing of the past. If you get a "fix-it" ticket, you now have to pay the entire fine in addition to getting it signed off. Got to love a state that doesn't know how to budget.

Shorty headers are pretty much a waste of money on this car unless your adding way more than just exhaust and a CAI. Even most S/C don't see enough gains from the headers to justify the cost and installation headache.

Most of the CAI's on the market WILL NOT get C.A.R.B. #'s due to them removing the carbon filter. I believe there is only 1 company that makes a sealed box that COULD POSSIBLY get a C.A.R.B. #. Like others have said, keep you OEM airbox for your trip to the smog station in 6 years.

As far as exhaust goes, get a good cat back. LMII is a good one, but you can get something a bit louder from JBA for a little less $$$. That is what I'm running and love it.

Stop by the California Regional fourm. This topic has been covered in detail and is always getting updated.
