Thermostat?

Maybe wrong area, please move if that's the case. Whats the purpose of having a 160 degree thermostat?

when the engine runs at 160 the computer will run a little more fuel and timing as detonation is not so prominant at this low temp.
I believe this is why. sum fuel milage will be sacrificed

Don't waste your money. Do a search on 160 thermostats and you may rethink getting one. You may help it if it's a supercharged engine or something, but for normal or slightly tuned stock on the street, I wouldn't bother. The computer wants to see a higher temp anyway I believe.

Essentially, there isn't much to gain without changing fan setpoints anyway, so just have them come on a bit earlier with the stock thermostat and you'll be happier.

Don't take my word for it, though. Do your own research and decide for yourself.

Yes you only want to run a 160 t stat when going with s/c and a custom tune.I know when they tuned mine the told me to definatly replace the T Stat and they would then command the fans on at 200 deg instead of the factory 225 deg.

thermostats are not worth replacing unless you have some serious forced induction.

That is good to know. That was not on the list from my speed shop that is putting my headers, CAI and cam in. I was going to ask about that.
