Dude at work pissing me off, sell my car.

Keeps going on and on about how I should sell my car and buy a house.

He'd sell it if it was his, depreciating by the day he says.

Annoying as hell, I say "different strokes for different folks, if you had a Harley Ultra Classic that wasn't costing you anything, you wouldn't sell it."

He says, "well I have a house, but I need a new bike"

He needs that bike about as much as I need my car, and I already have 2 bikes.

He has a 2002 Harley electraglide classic that is his baby.

Everything with wheels depreciates.

HOLY CRAP SAME SITUATION FOR ME!!!!
im 23, still living at home and went and bought this beautiful car.
i got lucky and was hired onto the chicago fire dept at 21... guys at the firehouse always give me sh!t for not moving out and "blowing my money on this stupid car"
im sorry, i've been blessed, not many 22/23 year olds have the opportinity to purchase a car like this. dont get me wrong, i've had 750$ a check taken out before i got my hands on it and going directly to my credit union account since i can remember... parents are moving within the next year or so, so why not stick around and be able to save over 1400 a month?
thats my logic

They are just wishing they had the car. But buying a house IF you can afford it and have a FIXED rate loan is a real good idea at a young age, if you make 1 or 2 extra payments a year you could pay it off in 15 years or less.

If you are 23 just think having a payed off house at age 38!!! That would be awesome.

BUT you need to IGNORE these people, stay away if you can. By always giving in and letting them bother you will only make it worse and it will never end.

DO NOT LISTEN OR COMMENT TO THEM ..IGNORE THEM...

Actually... They are right, you SHOULD sell it and buy a house.

Who the hell only does the things they SHOULD?

i totally understand that i could very easily be driving my paid off 05 cobalt and be saving an extra 700 a month, however i am into cars, i like cars, and i would rather be living it up at 23 with a car like this than be 40 with a....2030 camaro lol

i understand that financially this is the wrong way to go about it BUT WHATS THE FUN IN THAT?!?!
i would rather be having tons of fun in my younger years
having a camaro at 40 with a wife and kids (im assuming) is probably not as fun at being single with a camaro at 23

i will move out and i will have a house... i just postponed that a year or two to have tons of fun, and drive a nice car. what good is a house without anyone to share it with (g/f, wife, kids, ect...) i work 24 hour shifts and when im off, im RARELY home so what good is a house going to do me right now when all i do is sleep and shower in one, and nothing else

i didnt buy this car for anyone else besides me, nor to "show off" yes i like it when people comment, but u will never hear me bring up the fact that i drive a camaro in conversation unless that question is asked (i get the "your just trying to show off" all the time)

this is my point, justified or not this is what i chose and im very happy with it... what i really need to do is get a studio in downtown chicago... then the possibilities will be endless

A house is great but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Having both, if I had to choose between them, I'd keep the car.

Ask him how much his house has depreciated in the past three years. I'll bet it is a lot more than your Camaro cost!

Unless your planning on getting married and looking to have kids, I don't see the need to get a house.

I'd tell your friend to get a life and worry about himself.

You're just lucky you didn't buy a house a few years ago. Then you'd be in over your head in dept.

A house used to be an investment, but with real estate prices in limbo,it could be 10 yrs. before you realize any gains.
Alot of the people that I know, bought huge houses in cramped developments so they could boast about how many square feet they have, now that house has lost 50% of it's value and is like the anchor on the EXXON VALDEZ,around their necks.
Insted of building equity, they are watching it go down the drain.
Live everyday to it's fullest, and take advantage of all the oppurtunities you get.Enjoy yourself while you are young and don't think that someday in the future you will do it. That day may never come.

He bugs you because he is an idiot. Just smile and agree with whatever he says, then ask him if he would care for a ride or to even borrow the keys. Smile and simply say " "Nice car eHH. I like it too"

The only thing you should be thinking about at your age is Cars, Girls, and having a great time. You will never get these years back, so enjoy them to the fullest. You can think about a buying house when you get married. The guy at your work is probably jealous.

I have the car... and now a house. I'm doing this, with bi-weekly payments. I'm putting 50g's down on the house, and with the bi-weekly payments, the remainder will be paid off in 6-7 years. Add in the money I'll be able to put into it for upgrades, and I'll be able to sell the house close to double what I paid for it.

To contribute: Guys at work were like this for me as well, but it was mostly just cause I'm young and what not. At the end of the day, they realized the amount of money I was saving living at home. The only reason I moved out is cause I saw the oppoturnity for owning at a young age.

Life is to short to worry about what other people think. Enjoy all your toys and buy the house, condo or whatever when you are ready. They don't pay your bills or sleep in your bed. Jealousy is a mofo.

Must be an age thing ... This new generation of kids just don't understand being responsible. If I had a twenty something kid at home, working a full time job and just having fun ... I would have a big problem with it ... I would tell them to cut the crap, man up and get their own damn place to live. The toys come second, after paying for a roof over their head and their bills ... Grow up !!! Nobody ever said it was gonna be easy ...

You're out cruising and he stuck mowing the lawn or some other domestic chore on the "Honey DO" list. Home ownership is great and long term the best return on your dollar you will ever see, but don't be in too big a rush.

Different strokes for different folks is absolutely right. I lived it up while living with my parents longer than I should have as well until one day my dad said that even birds kick their young out. That is when I knew it was time. You need to live your life and don't let this guy get under your skin. He's probably upset that he wasn't able to take the same route as you.

Hey Iam 30 and dont have a house and I really dont care if I ever do. I have no desire to buy one and if I did it would be a duplex. Live in one side and rent the other side out to cover your living expense = more money you have to play with cars. If i were married and had dual income I might look into a house but right now for me it would a chain around my neck draging me down. Everyone I know that owns one is in over their heads and wishes a tornado would take it out.

Take the Camaro out. Meet some hot chick (with a house), Move in with her and take over the garage. Pay your share of the house. Rub it in co workers face and live happily ever after.
