How far can i go and still pass emissions?

I'm about to get an l99 camaro and want to do performance upgrades. I'm looking to do Longtubes and complete exhaust, torque converter, intake, cam and tune. I live in new york city and need to pass emissions. How much can i do without worrying about this? Also, cam selection seems to be slim for l99's. I want to eliminate the dod and afm but I'm not looking to do a complete ls3 changeover.

Depends on what type of emissions testing they do. If they do the sniffer test then longtube headers will not pass, to pass you will have to get shortie headers. If they do the code test then longtube headers will pass if you adjust the O2 sensors in the tune.

Everything else you listed should be fine.

longtubes won't pass. you can do intake/exhaust and that's about it.

Just intake and exhaust? that sucks! I thought maybe a mild cam and converter would be possible. Should i rethink my camaro purchase alltogether? :(

Couldn't he also do a SC with stock exhaust?

Could he do SC with headers and stock cats and stock exhaust?

I think he should check with some local speed shops.

only 2 supercharger companies have OE exemption numbers/Carb cert numbers, but you can do a supercharger if you only want to do catback exhaust and sometimes intake.

NY is similar to CA but a little more lax on the rules, but I know in CA if you move the cats or touch them (meaning long tubes), you automatically fail emissions. Anything form the cat back is fine, intake doesn't do enough to warrant failing emissions but some intakes might be considered illegal in NY since they're illegal in CA

This would be his best bet.

I'm not concerned with a visual inspection. I'm concerned with the car on the rollers passing the sniffer test. Also, i want to stay normally aspirated.

DOD and AFM are the same thing. I think LPE in Indiana can do a emmissions legal Magnacharger for you along with a warranty as long as you do not do other mods. They will retain factory CATS I believe and may permit you a CAT back exhaust. I believe the Maggie provides an approved intake as well but not for sure. I feel your pain brother. Camaro is worth it. Good Luck
