Blade Spoiler

I saw the blade spoiler on the accessory boards at Indy, but it wasn't included on the pricing info we've seen so far. Does anybody know if it will be available at launch and if it will be available in Aqua Blue Metallic? Just curious before I place my order on Saturday, which can't get here fast enough...

Thanks.

the blade spoiler and the stock spoiler are the same holes, its the Wing spoiler that doesnt use the same mounting holes.

Yes I had asked that question in the afternoon session and expressed concern that someone who wanted the wing spoiler would have to buy a new deck lid or get the original holes filled and then repaint the deck lid. An expensive proposition for anyone with an RS or SS.

Too bad you can't get a spoiler delete RPO to take care of that problem. It's not like the factory worker has to do anything extra. Does the blade spioiler have an RPO number?

No RPO yet on the Blade Spoiler, it is not available at launch. If you think you're going to want this, then choose the standard spoiler and you'll have the correct hole pattern for when you want to make the switch.

aww man. so how does that work if you get the high wing? you have to drill new holes and patch the stock holes and repaint?

Yes which is unfortunate. I have put in a inquiry asking about offering a spoiler delete RPO to buyers so that they don't have to deal with this expensive problem.

For anyone who thinks the Wing spoiler is Ricey or anything. Think back to your car history. American And European cars both had wing styled spoilers way before the Japanese. People always complain about some wings looking too ricey, especially if it sits up higher than most wings, but think of the old Ferraris and...um...Daytona Charger/Super Bird. Look at the Old Firebird T/As and the Gen3 Z's...the Gen5 wing doesnt look any Ricier than these two.

Personally I think lay-on spoilers usually look pretty dumb (like my G6). Granted with the shape of the decklid, a lay-on spoiler looks decent on the Camaro.

Im just saying, is it really ricey....no I dont think so. It's just a different style, that Im guessing causes more Rear-end downforce at 90+ Mph. So if people want to fly in their camaros and would feel more comfortable with the downforce a wing would add, then they should get it.

As the resident devil's advocate, I want to point out that the cars with stylized spoilers usually had a function for those spoilers. Riced-out cars, as they are being called, barely break the 200-hp mark at best. Even when you have a 350-hp Civic Si, it is not usually getting to speeds fast enough to warrant a Boeing 747-quality wing. American cars with ginormous spoilers use them out of necessity. Honda Civics with ginormous spoilers are overcompensating for undersized engines and drivers who can't drive RWD.

Good point about the 1969 Trans-Am!

But this isnt a car that barely reaches 200hp. I'm sure many people are going to be going for 500+hp, Say a 540 hp Supercharged Camaro...that will be able to get up to triple digits in no time, where more down force is needed to remain at high speeds. (Saying this makes me anxcious to see the first Gen5 car chase in LA County). So can you blame these people for getting the wing?

Anyways, I would like to see a few good comparision photos of the Wing, Stock, and Blade Spoilers. I dont know what I want yet (And yes I am considering the Wing...lol), but for awhile I will just have the stock spoiler. If I end up getting a different hood for the Supercharger, then I will probably order the Wing at that time, b/c I hate it when a car is off balance visually. If you have a scoop, cowl, or large bulge...then you need some sort of wing to balance it out in my opinion.

No kidding. The few pics I've seen with it remind me of the original Knight Rider. Not good.

But hey... if they are good enough for "The Car of Tomorrow"...
