Flowmaster American Thunder CB L99

Does anyone have this system for their L99? I see in the picture at flowmaster.com that they have removed the resonator section and it is just straight pipes. So this leads me to believe they have not taken into account of the AFM droning when turned on.

Is there any Flowmaster guys here that has more information about the L99 system. I really like the sound but I can't handle the drone (I have previous experience with another system and put the stock back on). I'm thinking the best case is to just get an Axle back system only. Thoughts or videos from people that have the American Thunder (409S?) on their L99 would be grateful.

PS, Trust me I know what you are all thinking and yes I'm blaming my wife, a tune is out of the question. LOL

I plan on going with this same system and a local performance shop here is going to delete AFM with HP Tuners for about $75. That will solve the problem and no affect on tune. However, I'm not sure if the AFM delete for void the GM warranty!!!!!!

I think Bigtex686 had it untuned for a while and it wasn't horrible. Too quiet for my taste but not bad now that he has a cam, LTs and a tune.

Any modification to the stock computer tune = void powertrain warranty IF they catch it. Just the fact that the stock settings have been changed (no matter what the change may be, i.e., AFM, rev limiter, CAGS or skip-shift removal, etc.) = void powertrain warranty IF they catch it. It's all about risk/reward.

Flowmaster American Thunder CB L99

I have just installed the Flowmaster American Thunder Kit 817481 on my L99 and really love the sound. I did not notice alot of drone in the car at all. I did notice in Sport Mode when paddle shifting from 6th down to 5th there was a little drone but once I got back on the gas all it was fine.

Mine is the LS3 with the FlowMaster, and in 6th running at 65 I get drone. It really doesn't get on your nerves at all, just up the volume on the tunes and all is good. IMO the deep tone is worth the little bit of drone at certain speeds, just avoid the speed where you get it.

Installed it today love the sound, so far it seems the drone noise is when the AFM kicks in. If you shift with the paddles you can keep it from kicking in with RPM's.

I need to hear more video sound clips of the American Thunder Flowmasters with & without different headers before I make up my mind.

The like 1 and only video clip around with Headers has that 40 series ping sound that I love so much..... Wonder if it was just a fluke

Plzzzz who ever has them installed take some video clips of drive by, idle, reving and launches
Every video i watch they have a slightly different tone

I'm just wondering if I just need to go with just 40 series mufflers and not a whole cat back. I think that would still hide the AFM like stock. Does anyone have a video of this config type? Just 40 Series mufflers with stock resonators and stock cats?

Thanks

The kit comes with super 44's. But you can get the 40's, magnaflow Xpipe and keep the 2.5 " piping ALOT cheaper and it sounds better with the xpipe. Sounds even better once you add a CAI and EVEN BETTER when you tune out the AFM!

Looking at flowmaster's website, it appears that the super 44 is louder than the 40 series. I think what I'll end up doing is calling a vendor or flowmaster directly to find out exactly which series muffler comes with the American Thunder exhaust kit.

thanks,

thanks,
The Flowmaster guys actually came onto this site in another thread and answered that question saying the mufflers used in the AMT setup were a slightly modified Super 44. Don't know where that thread is though...

WAIT...Found it. Here's the excerpt from the other thread:

...and the thread it came from = http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59505

Hi Jimmy,
Thank you for choosing Flowmaster. The only thing that we make specific for your car are the cat-back systems. All of our mufflers are universal and will require some fabrication to install on the vehicle. If you want to use an Original 40 series muffler, part # 42543 should be the closest to the stock setup. In the kits that we have for your car we use a modified Super 44 style muffler. The Super 44 will have less interior noise than the Original 40. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. Thank you.
Thank you for contacting Flowmaster.

I installed the AMT in my L99 about a month ago. When the AFM kicks in the drone is horrible. I covered the whole trunk with fatmat and it helped alittle. I'm thinking of putting back the stock resonator and just using the mufflers. I do not want to tune until after the warranty is up. I will post when I get it done.

The AFM drone is annoying to me at times, but not as annoying as that super-quiet stock exhaust. When you get on the throttle, it's worth it!

If possible, find somebody in your area, at a car show or meetup, that has this system so you can hear it in person.
