engine cover

Hey guys quick question. I am thinking about taking the engine cover of of my camaro SS l99. Will doing this cause any kind of over heating? My dad is realy concerned about it so I thought it would be a good idea to see what the experts have to say about it.

Thanks for any help.

This is just my opinion..but I would think removing the cover would actually cool it down a few degrees, the heater hoses are laying on the intake manifold and are sandwiched between the motor and engine cover.

Yeah....it would actually be the opposite. It will hold in the heat.

It is a heat trap. Dump it unless you are going to a car show and want to open the hood for looks.

I have not heard any truth about any HP gain but YES, remove the cover, it only holds the heat in and around the intake. In the past it was known that any time you remove heat from the intake you actually pick up HP. Maybe this is where the 10 HP gain came from. I went one step further and had the heater hose relocation kit installed and the engine compartment looks like , well, an engine compartment now and not a covered up engine.

I actually ordered an IOM engine cover after I got my car. Now I've decided I like the looks without it. I am also going to move the heater hoses etc. to tidy things up. I have some photos, but not a clue how to post them. LOL!

Here are some pics without the engine covers, believe it or not there is an engine in there somewhere. The stock covers come off when you do a TVS2300 Supercharger, just no room left for the covers. The sacrifices we have to make. Removing the engine covers will allow the heat to dissipate quicker for a cooler running car.

Engine covers removed

Headers and MTI Racing plug wires

TVS2300 supercharger, no room for engine covers.

Here's a picture of the 2 covers (Intake and Engine).

After driving around (hot engine) we removed the engine cover and a rush of hot air came out from under it. So yes, it holds in heat like a blanket. The covers are designed (with insolation) to reduce engine noise.

why not take the cover off, cut the "chevrolet" out of it, attach some expanded steel and have a "custom" engine cover that doesnt hold the heat but still looks sweet?

I have done the same thing and have run into absolutely no problem. It's a bit harder getting to the bleed valve on the fuel rail since it sits towards the firewall, but it doesnt bother me at all.

I have driven about 1500 miles with no issues. I can hear the engine a lot more now but I like it. Major beni the engine cools down much quicker between runs!!!

Sorry dude...I must disagree...you really did mean to this thread. Your question has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. Not being an A$$ just calling it as I see it. Yes there are kits to do that and there are threads that talk about it. Use the button. If you can't find anything that way, start your own thread in the correct forum. Just trying to be helpful. Cheers.
