It would be a perfect spot for a Popup portable GPS holder. I'm going to be looking into this, if anyone makes one I'll buy it. If anyone finds links to the gauge pod post them, maybe it could be modified to hold a gps.

would anyone be willing to make another video showing how to do this? I want to try it but am really nervous about messing it up.... Also need to look into one of those tool kits, where do you get them? Any auto parts store?

I can't make the video, sorry I just put my Camaro away for the winter.
It is not difficult. But I can understand being nervous. As for the tool kit, I bought mine at Harbour Freight.

This mod is relevant to anyone with the ba sound system. Trim level is irrelevant

I unplugged mine last week and will definitely be keeping it like that. IMO, the main improvement is the wider range of frequencies I can clearly hear. Never would have thought to do this on my own, thanks!

wow. I guess am the only one who didnt like it. I am for sure an audiophile and have been playing muic for 20 years. I tried it wired/unwired listening to an array of music on ipod and XM and found that for my tastes having the center speaker unplugged did not complete the full frequence range of the sound system.

I'm just glad it has a radio I remember when you were lucky a radio in a car, you got a am radio with one CENTER speaker.

Then my next car had a am/fm with two speakers man i thought i was in heaven.

I Agree

I disconnected mine also and the sound wasn't as full. I also noticed that when I was using the hands free calling and talking to someone I had a hard time understanding dialogue. I am also mad because I bent my speaker grill removing it because one of the clips was stuck. Went to dealer to get new one and that grill costs $120.00.

Ya I bent mine too...and scraped the dash a TINY bit. It bothered me at first but i've learned to live with it. I have since bought a trim removal kit and will prob use that to remove it again at some point and try to rebend it back into position. I definitely don't think I'd spend $120 on a new grill

I agree, with 128kbs MP3's it sounds better without the center, but with lossless or source material the sound is much better with the center speaker.

This may be a dumb question, but why can't you simply adjust the fade to lower the volume of the center speaker?

I don't think you will can single out the center speaker with the fader, you would affect the other front speakers.

I unplugged my speaker too, I think it is a huge improvement. Also like some of you guys I do notice a little more bass.

Here's something for anyone afraid of just unplugging the center speaker. The G8 had the same crappy set-up, and this mod worked really well.

Just something else to think about.

I did this 2 days ago and it does indeed sound better. That cover was a bit of a pain to get off.

**FYI, lift the side facing the cabin off first, there are lips on the opposite side that slip under the windshield side of the console.**

....The sound system is still very lacking for this car!!

It might not be that big of a deal though... there's tabs on the back side (closest to the windshield that you can see in the bottom of your pic above) that hook under the opening and with the two you haven't dropped, that should keep the grill stable in there.

Option 2 (but somewhat dishonest): replace the grill and go to the dealer complaining that there's rattling coming from that area of the dash when you're driving around. Say you don't know where it's coming from but it sounds like it's under the center grill. Let them 'discover' the missing tabs and they'll replace it for you.
Karmas a bitch. Careful.

Haha, took the words right out of my mouth...

Definitely the best sub-5 minute mod, IMO.

I turned the midrange to 0, left the base and treble at the stock settings, seemed to work
