Anyone know anything about Scooters??

Before I get flamed this isn't for daily driving or even commuting. I live in a huge neighborhood and there are tennis courts, pool, park, and store all within a 2-3 mile radius. I know you have to spend like $2000-3500 for a good quality name brand scooter but I noticed there are some reputable websites online that have the chinese brands w/ warranties for $800-1000 for a 150 cc which is what I want (or 250 cc if under $1000 or so). I have my motorcycle license so not worried about street laws, if I have to i'll get a plate for it but go without insurance if legal. Again this is just for cruising around the neighborhood when I dont feel like bicycling or walking.

Let me know if you have any reccomendations!

Honestly, I wouldn't get one of the cheap chinese brand ones. I've had two people I know do that - and both of them had warranties - and they had no end to troubles. During warranty period they barely had the scooter because it was always in the shop, and the troubles didn't end with the warranty. From the factory, I saw warped brake rotors, bent forks, etc. Just not worth the trouble - get a name brand model if you're going to get one, or even a 250 motorcycle like the V-Star 250 (3995 msrp).

JMHO and YMMV of course.

Thanks man, you're probably right and I'm not willing to spend anything more than $1000-1100 on something like that so I'll just hold off probably. I just thought that if they had warranties and it was a reputable website I might be ok but maybe not haha

Just go after the older used pedal style ones, $100 gets a nice one still.

The pedal ones are better too, #1 if it won't run, just pedal your butt home.
But it can help you skirt some laws as it can go anywhere bicycles can, where "motorized vehicals" can't. See the 5.0 coming, just kill the engine and start to pedal. Like taking a short cut down a 45-50MPH road where it would be illegal for a moped, if you "pedal" its now a bicycle n they can't say shit.

Folks do that around here as by law you can't get to allot of places if you stuck to the 35MPH roads only.

I've never heard anything good about the Chinese ones. I think Kymco is Korean and I've heard ok things about those. Yamaha Zuma's are sort of stupid fun.

I'd spend the $1,000 on a used Honda rebel or Kawasaki 250R. At least they have some power and you won't look/feel like a goof. At least you'd have the option of going on the highway and have something that can get out of it's own way while driving around town.

Thanks guys. I checked craigslist and there isn't much around here decent. The only cool looking ones that aren't garbage are $3000 and up so I'll probably pass on it for a while. I should probably just ride my bike more anyway lol

I thought about that but my girlfriend wants to use it too and she doesn't want or know how to learn shifting.

Stay away from the Chinese ones no matter the price! They may have a warranty, but I have heard horror stories about availability of parts (which you'll need cuz they're junk).

Scooters are fun for the purpose you're describing. I grew up driving Vespas and Lambrettas around and they are a lot of fun
