Class act by GM? Really.... They gave a millionaire a car...... Where is my car when I gave them money? The American people bailed them out and all I got was a 8% interest rate on my Camaro. Yeah, GM is a class act alright.

Ok, point made. But, little off base. This is as good of advertising as any. They will sell cars from this. They won't sell cars by givin gone to you....... unless you are known and admired by a couple million people....

I too, give (some) credit to GM for this! The rest go to the pitcher and umpire.

Even as much of an advertising gimmic as it can appear to be... it was still the right thing to do. Ok... maybe the right thing to do was to let the headline fade away, but...

The whole situation was a good example of how life-happens, and how we should deal with it (i.e. life ain't fair). And through it all, both the umpire and the pitcher were gentlemen about the situation (even with all the media shoving mics in their face).

Good sportsmanship seems to be rare these days... I'm glad GM highlighted this instance!!

Liffe lesson learned here alright:

Pitcher doesnt explode on the Ump gets a free Vette from GM.

Business Owner losses his business, thus losses his house, car etc. and gets nothing from GM.

Lesson Learned.......

Oh give me a break. I lost dental and vision insurance with the GM bankruptcy, my dad and his former coworkers aren't sure what's going on with their pensions right now, and yet I'm not acting all bitter towards the company just because they gave a guy who deserves recognition for an outstanding achievement that was taken away from him a free Corvette.

I'm not saying that he doesnt deserve any recognition, what I'm saying is that a wealthy person doesnt deserve a 60K car from a company that needed our help last year.

I give back to my community day in and day out, either at my job or on my free time, where is my "recognition"?

Whats next? GM Donates 4 Million dollars to Bill Gates for RECOGNITION with the outstanding job with Windows 7? LOL

You've totally missed the point.

First... GM donating 1 vehicle here or there isn't equivalent to $4MM (your second example), nor is it nearly as much as an advertisement usually costs (production included). This was semi-free publicity... and GOOD publicity at that (for a change).

You really need to step back and look at this differently/correctly... especially w/o the "where is my car... where is my recognition" part. (It's not all about you)

It has nothing to do with how much money the pitcher makes... it has nothing to do with how much money the umpire makes... it has nothing to do with how much money YOU make!

Get over it man, it is publicity gimmic (advertisement... & a good one at that), and I'm sure it came out of that part of GMs budget.

What outstanding job?

Both sides of this argument have good points. I'd put this story into the "that's just the way the world works" file. Does a pitcher deserve a free car just for not blowing up at a bad call. Probably not. Did GM just get a lot of free exposure that would have cost way more than the Corvette had they bought the equivalent ad time. Probably yes.

It is what it is. It may not appear "fair," but it's hard for me to complain since it was a win-win for both sides involved, and no one on the outside looking in lost anything because of the deal. (Though the pitcher would probably rather have had the perfect game instead).

They should of bought the umpire a pair of glasses instead of a corvette for the pitcher.

I have to be honest... I've never been a huge fan of baseball... so I don't know all the arguements regarding 'instant replay'... but it doesn't make sense that we have the technology but don't put it to use. Seems to work pretty well in the NFL, no?

Better yet, they could have given him a Chevy Aveo and told him it was "safe."
