My Dad was a WW2 vet. War is always unfortunate as many men die.

Just remember the greatest generation "ever" gave us the hippies of the 60's.

I remember. Last year I went to Europe and did my own Canadian battlefield tour, and I based it around being on Juno beach on the 65th anniversary.

I wrote this 2 years ago:

Their actions and sacrifices are in no way diminished by the fact that some of their children were freaking idiots. Besides, those hippie potheads did create some of the best music ever recorded.

Don`t forget that "Hippie" generation also fought a war in Vietnam.

Peace, love, dove, remember Woodstock.

I always thought the patriots went to Vietnam, and the hippies went to Canada. And then became today's college professors.

I was referring to that generation that also included hippies. I also believe more hippies were drafted compared to those who went to Canada.

Peace out brother.

Its becasue of The Greatest Generation much of the world is free today - we owe our grandfathers, fathers, grandmothers and mothers who fought, served or supported our Country's efforts in World War II all the respect, admiration and honor...

My Dad who is still with us was in the US Navy, on a ship supporting D-Day efforts and I'm proud of his service.

I was on Juno beach last year for D-Day, my troop was refurbishing an AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) that belonged to *26 Armoured Engineer Squadron-my old Sqn!!
I was there for 2 weeks chatting to all the vets and families as they passed by. We also had the remaining crew survivor on the parade. Very humbling indeed.

I shall post some pics later if you like?

*26 Was attached to the 7TH Canadian Inf Bde. Winnipeg Rifles were the lead Inf unit.

I know this is D-Day but every year I feel embarrassed that I don't remember it untill 2-3 days later. I don't know why it happens. Its even more embarrassing since my Grandfather was part of the British Indian Army that held Imperial Japan at Burma. My family is damn proud of our participation and remembers my Grandfather and 2.5 Million of his brothers who not only stopped Japan, but also kicked Rommel's ass in N. Africa.

Without their sacrifice and service, I doubt any of us would be enjoying our lives today.

Blade, trust me, Rommel did NOT have his ass kicked in any way shape or form-his withdrawal was such that he couldn't be caught, I suggest a read of http://books.google.ca/books?id=jq0E...hout+hate&cd=1
Excellent read, and shows just how lucky the allies were due to Rommels poor re-supply!!

I'm not takin anything away from your Grandfather Blade, respect

Well he wasn't in Africa so no offense taken, but the Indian troops did kick some butt in Africa.
