Ha... with the tires on there now I'll be watching your taillights disappear. But it makes for good smoke signals in the near term.

No transport spotted? With my luck the next thing will be the driver saying he made a slight diversion to New York or something...

Now thats not funny! By the Way what boost setting did you end up choosing to go with? I know that with the controller you can go from 0- whatever you want but what have you chosen to go with for just regular streeting?

Also, how in the hell is that engine revving up past 8,000 rpms???? that is crazy!!!!

To be honest when normal street driving it will be right on the gates (i.e. zero controller input)which puts it at 'base' boost. That puts it at just shy of 900hp which is plenty (and safer) for daily driving. After the suspension is all tuned with the M/T 345's then I will sneak up on optimal 'street' boost. Drive it at base, but if the 'need' arises, open the center console, push a button and bump HP to what is necessary. The track is a totally different animal.

Yeah. As you know M, it built for much higher rpms.

Any clue what top speed will end up being? Not that it really matters, can just be another obnoxious number to go along with 1400 hp, 8,000 rpm, etc etc

I will defer that to Robert. What Brandi runs will give us all a good indicator of what a Camaro's true potential is with some serious HP.

There are so many variables there and really the most important will be the Cd. If someone want to really start tweaking these for top end, there could be some pretty sick numbers.

Thanks T !!

Expect the transport to show up at the house today. It seems to slip a day here and there. The last go around it was supposed to be here Thursday then Friday then Saturday morning. Last dispatch said Saturday evening.

But as luck would have it we now have imminent Tropical Rains/Storm coming through here over the next 5 days or so.

Loaded question... If you're talking flat out top speed with no distance limit.. then we are talking well in excess of 250 mph... But there has to be a tremendous amount of work done on the car to achieve that...

B. knows my intentions but he has probably forgotten more than I'll ever know... but here goes...

We are building my car for standing mile speed runs...and maybe a couple of open Unlimited Road races... hence the 3.07 gears and the close ratio gears in the trans...

On the dyno the other day, we went in excess of 170 true tire speed in 4th gear... on a very conservative tune.. We are adding a boost controller as B. has and some other goodies and will be cranking her up very soon... Obviously this wont change the speed per gear, but it will accelerate through each gear faster, and push through the air harder...

Drag is an exponential issue as well... I'm not getting into that, math is not my forte... but it is a huge barrier to top speed runs...

There is a CD as was mentioned above by B. but it can be improved... figure out ways to get the wind off the firewall.. preferrably out the top... as opposed to the bottom of the car...

Look at the design of the aero panels and the hood on the ZL1. They block air under the car from coming up into the engine bay, and get the air that enters through the radiator out via the hood vents...

It has been proven that the Camaro in mostly stock body form takes 1000RWHP to achieve 200 mph in the standing mile... (1 mile, standing start, go as fast as you can) MTI out of Atlanta Ga went 204.xx with just over 1000 RWHP in a 5th gen...

My builder and I are planning to beat that, though saying that and doing it are two different things... and to my knowledge no one has beat it in two years...

Structurally on the front end, you have to reinforce the lower grill surround as it tends to shark jaw at about 180... which can allow it to drag the ground, and introduces lots more air and resistance to the front of the car... There is also the big diffuser in the back, that if you are under the car lookinbg back and up... you'll notice a big air brake there...

We've all seen cars going down the highway with that thing flapping down into the air stream... That's a huge hinderence...

There is a guy on here, it would take me a few minutes to find it, but he takes the parameters of a car and determines the top speed in each gear, and the power limited top speed due to Cd. His program is pretty accurate, though there are lots variables in the real world.

I'll try to find it later and post it up...

My builder goes to bonneville most every year to support a Corvette he built the motor for... Guys got within a couple of mph of the record for the class... They want to go back this year, he's going, and he asked them what they had changed to help gain a few more mph's... uhmmm, nothing...

Here's the deal... It's crazy to think that by changing nothing the outcome will be any different... oh well....Reducing drag and increasing power are the keys to going fast... The Camaro isn't a brick, but it's close, comparitively speaking... Get it low, manage the air flow, and crank the power... oh... and hang on...

Thanks for the post R. I know this is an area you are passionate about and hope that you and Brandi post some killer numbers and maybe set a few records along the way !!

..and don't shortchange yourself. You posses a lot of knowledge in the C5 world...

Thanks, yeah I noticed with all the ZL1 aerodynamic upgrades, the front fascia still almost hit the ground at high speeds. Cool stuff! Guess you really have to think about what tires can take that kind of heat/speed without coming apart/unbalanced.

I saw a top gear video that explained how thick the air is in terms of simple annalogy. Something like trying to drive your car through a thick dough. Or something like that.

Ok, so stupid question time. What is 'CD' an accronym for?

Oh, and, the lighter the driver the lighter the car........ just sayin' ....... I might make for a better number.
