Would you buy if there were only V6 Camaros?

So with this latest bit of news and GM really seeming to push the V6....how many here would still buy a Camaro if the only offering were the 300HP V6?

Yes.

But of course, this would never happen. GM isn't stupid, they know people want V8s in their Camaros.

I would not use the word push. They are not recommending people buy it over the v8. They merely are offering it as an alternative to those who might want a cheaper car, better fuel efficeny, or cheaper TCO.

it's a hard decision, but i gota say probably not. although the V6 is no slouch, by any means, i would have a hard time going for it because of the long history of V8 Camaros being one of the best average-Joe sports cars around. that is why i even want the Camaro in the first place. the new Camaro looks amazing in all trims & it's a car i'd be proud to call my own, but i really want the performance offered by the new SS. if that were to go away, i'd probably just buy a used Corvette.

No. plain and simple.

Most People (...me.) that have the budget for an SS (30k-38k) are going to be looking for a higher performance level than the 5.9 0-60 V6. If the SS bails, id buy something else without too much thought or guilt....that G8 GXP was looking mighty fine...

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

I want the brakes and the suspension of the SS as much as the extra power. So, I would not buy the V6 as is. If factory performance options included brakes, suspension, and other stuff I wouldn't mind a 6 cylinder.

Yes. You can ALWAYS stuff a V8 into almost anything later, if you have the desire to make it happen.

Heck, I might still just buy a V6 anyway.

(never thought I'd say that, but I just did).

I know we could do a turbo. But, I'd have to say that a used C6 is better looking to me...

Shoot. I'd have to go for the G8 GT...and I'd prolly just put a blower on it and call it a day.

Well, if a V8 is mandatory, OK. I'll let you pass on that one. Just this once.

I don't want this to get into one of "those threads," but yeah...if one were mandatory, it would be the G8 GT. There's just a bunch more "room" to play with one.

I say no because I am buying one hell of a car for one hell of a price. I have always been more of a chevy guy. But when i heard that the camaro was making a comeback and what they were doing to it i was very interested. When I found out that i will be able to get a SS/RS with 400+ hp brembo brakes and great suspension for 38K I thought it was a steal. I have been on board ever since. If it was just a 6cyl I probably would have looked at the pics and thought oh that looks good but not for me. I want something that if i track it can compete with the high priced sports cars. With some tuning and a few bolt ons i plan on doing just that.

Me either. I will just let this all go for a few days. The dust clearly needs to settle.

See you all later. Goodnight.

I voted yes, but I was planning on getting a V6 anyway.

I think if I had a budget that could support an SS, I'd probably still get the V6 - BUT I would also get a classic muscle car with a good old V8 in it. I plan on using and abusing the odometer on my V6 camaro for some time - I may not be the first one to get a 5th gen V6, but I'm shooting to be the first to 1 million miles!

Maybe not that extreme, but you get the point.

I sure wouldn't buy a Camaro no matter how good lit looked if only a V6 was offered. I would look to buy a Ford or Dodge V8 powered vehicle if this was the case...

I probably would, but it would have to be a convertible. But I'd want the suspension stout, stout, stout!!! They'd also have to make it breath better to get it's numbers up to where that one version of the Cadillac is, (340hp). Oh, and did I say I want the suspension stout?!!! AND I want posi in my automatic as well, along with being able to turn off all the computer nanny stuff!!!!!!!! While were at it, I want lower gears too. (Wouldn't have any problems with a 3.45 rear end in there.)

Damn it, I just want my SS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No way. I make fun of V6 Mustang owners by pointing them out to my wife when we're driving. No offense to those buying the V6 Camaro but I will be pointing you out to my wife as well! Just kidding. But seriously, I can see both cars as practical depending on a persons intended goals and 300 hp is nothing to sneeze at, but for me no V8 = no Camaro.
