The Camaro SS or Corvette 1lt?

Alright guys,....I need opinions. The Camaro SS was my very first car, it's amazing and has head turning appeal, but I just hate that it's so heavy. I'm in love with all 5th gens, but every since I got into reading about different performance cars, I've also fell in love with Corvettes! Omg, I swear, I love these cars! The Corvette weighs in at 3,222 pounds,.....that' incredibly light; lighter than a GT500, GTR, and many other great cars. Yet the Camaro with all of it's power and head-turning looks, weighs in at 3,913 pounds for the L99 and 3800+ for the manual. Love the car but that's not good news for me. I don't like it being so heavy, especially considering there are lighter cars out there that probably can beat you with a couple of mods.

I love both cars, but I'm seriously considering trading in my SS (which the dealer said they'll give me 4,000 over what I paid for it because of it's condition), to get a corvette 1lt. I just want the lighter weight, handling and the engine. I want the dual-mode exhaust, and the raw power. Now many of my friends say I should just be happy with with I have but others are saying if I truly want the Corvette for all it's performance and sleek looks, get it! I mean, I have excellent credit! I'm in the 800's!!

Others are telling me, sure, the Corvette is ultra light and faster than 98 percent of the cars you'll encounter on the road, but you can spend that money you were going to drop on the Corvette on some mods for your Camaro, like Fastlane-Performance's turbo package. For $9,000.00 (labor included), you get 580 rwhp. I dunno, should I just spend the money on getting a Vett and getting a decent note or just drop it on the turbo kit.

I'm wondering would 580rwhp be enough to overcome a grand sport vett in a race? Who'd leave who behind?

I'm not trying to be king of the road, that's impossible, but what I ultimately want is a car that's extremely fast, responds well to mods, looks good, and will take down most competition. I'm kinda in it for the power.....
Oh and you know I'll be getting the manual this time around....

There's a reason you can get a great deal on a Vette and not the camaro right now. Stick with the Camaro imo. Many members here sold there vette for the 2010 camaro. Btw if you use the name Mr Clutch and buy a vette get a manual transmission this time

Do you need the back seats? I was considering a new base model Corvette but decided on the 2SS because I wanted the back seats. The Corvette is hard to beat performance wise, but I am glad I picked the Camaro.

lol. Of course I'd get the manual! All of the power I'd be missing from the automatic! Yeah, I know many people sold they're Vetts, but .....it's it's,....so fast.

No, I don't need the back seats,.....and from what I seen, the Vett has lots of space for groceries in the back. No one rides in my Camaro's back seat anyway.

I also hate that L99's are suppose to dyno around 320-330 rwhp but a LS3 it's 370ish and the vett(manual) is at around 390rwhp with a crank hp of 430.

The Camaro is a trendy car now but in a few years I don't think you will regret the corvette. I have embarest a few vettes in my Camaro allready. They seemed a bit "cocky" like I was a lower grade chev, so I let em have it. some mods to a Camaro can do wonders.

Wow, lol, you embarrassed a vett? What kinda mods you pushing? Rwhp??

I was thinking the Corvette though, it's very fast, ...and reliable.

A 3,913lbs 330rwhp car < 3,222lbs 390rwhp car.

Honestly though does it matter if its got 500 or 1000 hp or if it weighs 3000lbs or 4000 lbs. unless your going to go to the track where the hell are you going use that kind of power. I just have the V6 i cant even stretch its legs very often without getting into trouble. Having big hp is just something to fill your epeen with imo.

Wow... $9,000 for only 580rwhp lol....

There's a single turbo kit out for $5,800 that runs about 6.5psi and gets 625rwhp. A camaro with that much power to the wheels will be beating a LOT of corvettes...

Yup, I stacked my chips accordingly. Got my apartment first then started saving then when I figured I'd have enough to spend on the car not to be broke, I went ordered. The only reason I got it is because of my excellent credit and big down-payment.

Dude, I'm not trying to be the Bugatti Veyron on the road, I'd just like to have something with some serious power that isn't as heavy as challangers.

Where am I going to use that kind of power? I can think of alot of places.......OPEN.....EMPTY......ROAD.......12am.. ......YEAH. Did a couple of top speed runs around here. No harm. Where I live, which is right next to the 3 mile highway, after dark, it becomes the autobahn! Tonight I just heard this modded Trans-Am which damn near blew our windows out of our house. I mean, GOD, you can feel the vibration inside. Sounded like a Nascar.

Take out the back seats if you want it lighter. Good luck with your choice. I think you should staywith the Camaro.

Well, to each his own. But your right, the Camaro and Corvette are both on the same team! lol. I really admire and respect Vettes when I see them, they are truly beautiful cars and very...very fast out of the box. I just went wiped down my Camaro just a couple of minutes ago, and I realized something,...this is my very first car, and I absolutely LOVE IT!! I just can't bare to part with this thing! It looks so gorgeous. I love Corvettes, but to me the Camaro just has more character, and "bad ass" appeal when you look at it.

I don't get that feel when I look at the Vett. When I look at the Corvette, the very first thing I think of is, ok....middle aged gray haired guy, ..because that's virtually the only people I see driving them. I rarely, see a young guy pull up and hop up out of that thing. The second thing I think of when I see a Corvette is, wow, sleek slender, beautiful sports car, with RAW POWER and great handling.

I see two totally different things when I look at the Camaro though. First, let's get this out of the way: BAD-ASS. V6 or V8. Both look bad-ass. The next thing I think may be the most controversial of all things, but it was taken from another thread regarding "rick ross",.....

"HEAVY....heavy chain, heavy everything, HEAVY CHEVY-bully every-lane, BIG BLOCK-TRICKED OUT-with your' b**** in it"!

I'm just going to add some more power to the car and be happy with what I have because it's simply beautiful, and I think GM did an absolutely amazing job with this thing;they got it right. Then, I'll go on ahead and buy some Crystal Rock wax as a treat!

Wiping it down at 2 AM? That's dedication.

Vettes are great..but think of it this way. You've done so well that a 5th gen Camaro is your first car. Why don't you get to know the car itself a little better, mod it a bit, have fun with it, get a history going with it and always have a C6 Z06 or ZR1 as that car that you're working towards...while enjoying the heck out of your Camaro!

Most importantly do what your gut tells you will make you happy. You only live once.

What I am questioning is the comment you made about the dealer giving you $4000 over what you paid for it because of it's condition?????? Finding this real hard to believe.
