Need advcie from dealer on ordering / trade-in

Hi. We have an offer from a local dealer of invoice price for a new 2011 1LT. We will be trading in my wife's present vehicle. How does the dealer make an offer on a trade when the transaction might not happen for 2 months (or however long the order takes)? Will they make an offer on the trade now, or will they want to wait till the Camaro arrives? Obviously they'd have hand on the trade price at that time. Thank you.

I've seen it done three ways but it varies from dealer to dealer.

- Some won't make an offer until the car comes in.
- Some will give you a price range saying it's depending on the miles and shape at time of trade in.
- Some will give you a solid price with a stipulation that it might change depending on miles and shape the vehicle at time of trade in.

We won't lock in a trade value until the ordered car is on the lot ready to be delivered.

We would give you a ballpark figure now and then when you take delivery we would work out the final numbers.

Your car will have more miles and things break all the time. If a check engine light comes on or the wipers stop working...or if there is some damage that happens in that 2 months we would take a deduction for that.

I traded my 2010 Camaro in on April 2, 2010.I preordered my 2011 Camaro, and my trade went to the used car lot,and was sold 3 weeks later.
When I finally, got my vin.#, I went in and paid the difference for the 2011

I'll be trading in a 2008 Escape. If they offer what KBB says it's worth, we'll have a deal. To the dealers out there, how reliable is the KBB website for trade-in prices? Thanks.

Generally they will offer you somewhere close to the lowest value listed... I think thats called Fair condition? I doubt they will ever give you the excellent condition price.

They will not give you KBB trade-in value.
They use DEALER to DEALER GALVES BOOK values, MUCH less then KBB.

KBB is not a guideline for trade in values. The dealer will look at NADA Black Book, as well as Manheim Auctions to verify the vehicle is actually being sold at auction for the price to make sure they can get out of it if the trade sits on the lot too long. They will then modify as needed. Not always a bad thing.

I've honestly had more luck getting KBB value at carmax compared to dealers.
