Because of the weight and proportion difference. If the 2 cars have different weights, they aren't going to have the same power.

Not trying to start a war here, but please clarify what you mean by your statment. HP and TQ numbers from auto manufactures are rated at the flywheel not the wheels. A 300 HP engine make 300 HP weather it is in a dumptruck or a 1800lbs carbon fiber track car.

Further more even if it was rated at the wheels the weight of the car has nothing to do with the power it produces, just the effect the power has on the car. If you had two cars with the same engine tranny and rear axle ratios the numbers would be the same on a dyno reguardless of the weight differences between the two cars.

I would guess it would be something to do with the SAE J1349 dyno testing that is used to officially give the SAE Engine HP/TQ numbers. Remember, the current numbers are expected numbers, but until they release the Certified numbers, we don't know what it will really put down. I think the G8 GXP put down 15hp/15tq more than they expected.

I would think it would have to do with Intake / ECU / Exhaust differences .. add them up and the engine may not be quite as efficient as the same setup in the vette ..

Isn't a vette tuned for 93 octane? The Camaro is tuned for 89 octane and better gas milage.

Any LS3 can use regular, but premium is recommended.

They have ping (detonation) sensors that retard the ignition advance for lower octane fuel.

However, the engine makes less power with low octane, and it has been shown to be cost effective to use premium due to the increased fuel mileage that results.

Not to mention, it feels better when you step on it.

The Vette has a freer flowing exhaust and intake. But the figures as noted are not official figures as of yet, they are projected figures.

Not denouncing the other explanations (beside the weight hypothesis) because they're all likely to be true, but nothing with a bow-tie is supposed to have more power than a Vette. GNX anyone?

Marketing.

Oh, and weight has NOTHING to do with how much power a car makes. The only way weight would effect power numbers if if there's a drastic difference in the weight of the driveshaft, rear gears, half shafts, or rims and cars were advertised on whp, not bhp.

Wink

plus to put my $0.02 here it has been common knowledge that GM does not want cars that are smaller and lower priced to have more power than the flagship vette. even in 4th gens back was like that.

Actually the real difference is the vette has runflats - usually worth about 8 hp. Only upgrade worth more is a NOS sticker, usually worth about 15 hp

Disagree...

A ricer wing and muffler that sticks out 2 feet from the rear bumper, is usually good for 300+ hp on a Nissan Sentra.

Hmm, the NOS sticker sounds like a good idea for a quick HP boost

Poor guy probably has to have someone tie his shoes in the morning...give him a break.

Seriously...the vette has the extra horsepower because it's a targa top. If they made the Camaro with t-tops it would get the horsepower back. And when you take the t-tops off it's a proven fact that the hair on your upper lip immediately grows into a Burt Reynolds mustache.
