2011 2SS Unloaded from Railcar! TIRE QUESTION!

Camartracking.com just emailed me this morning and after tracking railcar found it is in Mesquite Texas (1 hour away) waiting to be unloaded. Sweet since I did not pre-order but found it on a dealer website and have already negotiated deal on it.

A few questions, it is #100443, does that mean it is the 443rd Camaro made for 2011?

Dealer trying to get me to buy tire warranty for $900. He says with Texas roads a tire issue could create many problems. Any ideas? Worth it? If so what could I negotiate for? ANything else they may try to sell me and recommendations on them?

Thanks!

Hey, which dealer are you using to buy your car from?

Mine is in Mesquite too, I'm waiting for it to get to Classic Chevrolet.

As for the tire warranty, that is up to you. What it basically covers is for events like getting a nail in the sidewall where the tire can't be repaired at a puncture repair place, and the warranty would cover the cost to replace the tire.

If for some reason the tire was damaged due to a pothole on Texas roads, then the tire would be covered, but you would have to check if the warranty covered wheels as well. If it does, then it is possibly worth it.

On the flip side, I have been fortunate enough to have had nails in my tires, but never in the sidewall. I haven't had to ever replace a tire due to a puncture. I did buy the warranty on the first new car I bought here in Texas, and never once had to use it. So I haven't done it again on subsequent new cars.

So it's up to you. If you think it's necessary, then go for it. If you don't, then I would say no thanks.

CUPRA-

Mine is also destined for Classic! Let's keep each other posted if we hear any updates because I assume they will arrive at the same time on the same truck.

Thanks for the tire advise. I live in Keller as well!

If it's just a tire warranty, then I say save the $900 and buy a complete set of tires from Tire Rack and buy gas with the difference. If it's a wheel/tire combo, a blowout could tear up a rim, and if they covered the wheel and all labor in fixing it, well...still, I probably wouldn't do it. Not for 900. They tried selling me a wheel/tire warranty for the new GMC but it was like 250 bucks, which is less than one alloy wheel. You can probably get a complete set of takeoffs for around $1000 and stash them as "insurance".

Of COURSE you'll have issues if you blow a tire. But whether you have tire insurance or not on them, you'll still have to deal with the blowout as it happens.

Your call. I personally wouldn't do it for $900. And avoid any scotchguard, undercoating or paint treatments from the dealer.

Wow, that's pretty bizzare, both ordered 2SS, both coming into Classic (hopefully on Monday, according to Eric Hall), and we both live in Keller.

Hope to see you around! At least we haven't ordered the same color!

It covers the wheels, tires, and any damaged to the car due to the tire issue....

But wouldn't my normal insurance cover a blowout that damaged the vehicle?

That is for added profit. Members here are selling complete tire AND wheel sets for similar pricing.

P.S. Congrats on the new Camaro !!!

I purchased road hazard protection on my 2SS/RS tires from Discount Tire. The total.....less than $200 It's good for as long as you own the car/tires (or until they need to be replaced).

At least get a price quote from them. You'll have to go to any Discount Tire and have the tires inspected (prices vary by different tire sizes) before they will write a policy though.

BTW...Good luck to all of you with your new 2011 Camaros

Bill

True story

I picked up a nail near my sidewall at 225 miles. Needed new tire - only 4 in the entire state that i could find. So I drove 4 hours round trip to purchase. Baby all better. At 575 mile I picked another nail - yep near the sidewall and here is the kicker same wheel.... So I have already bought two new tires for my car. Sigh.

I bought a 3 year tire hazard warranty for only $210. $900 is really expensive. How long is the term and does it cover the wheels too?
...and yes, your car is #443 for the 2011 year. They only build around 400 cars a day, so yours was started on the about second day of 2011 production,

Road Hazzard warranty should not cost more than the cost of one new tire. Chances of ruining 4 tires is pretty low.
Discount Tire charges about $40 per tire, or $160 to warranty all 4.

Don't pay $900 for a tire warranty. They're marking it WAY up on you. You can get it for a lot less. Tell the dealer a new set of tires for these cars is about $900.

Did you say $900 for the tire warranty? That's absolutely insane... My dealer offered it to me for $300, and I declined that.

They did say that it would cover tires and wheels (including whatever aftermarket tires and wheels I put on). That could be a good deal, but I'm sure there are a lot of clauses that limit coverage - they don't design these plans to be good deals, they design them to make additional $$$ for the dealers.
