Dell........ once again ............

Ok, so at Christmas time I waited too long to order James and Rebeccas laptop computers. By the time I went to order, everything said estimated to ship February.

So I noticed that they have what's called 'Fast Track' at Dell.com and I look into it. Apperently, if you have a business account, you can have good laptops sent right away. Even next day. You just can't have them made with the programs or specifics you want.

No problem.

We have two 3000.00 Dell accounts. One for Bonnie, and one for me. BUT they are personal accounts. So I call Dell and open a business account and order two laptops. Doesn't really matter to Dell if I pay them from my personal funds or not so who cares.

All is good.

Well, the first bill I get I send a money order because I'm not in the system yet to add the third account and pay on-line.

No problem.

So at the beggining of the next month I add the account to my Dell on-line profile. Bill is still not due at that time. So I add Dell to my 'Bills to pay' spreadsheet in Excell that I pay all of our bills with on the first of every month.

Ok.

Well, the first of the next month, I go to pay the bills. (Our other 2 Dell accounts have 0.00 balance) So I log into Dell and I see that sometime, right after I added the account, the bill came due during the month and 2 weeks later it became late. So I'm now about a week late paying the bill. My responsibility, my fault.

Well.

I pay the bill and a little late payment. The 2 laptops came to around 1500.00 and the first payment I sent was 400.00, the second (first one on-line) was 600.00 plus whatever the late payment was. I have a few bills that do this. Where the bill cycle starts after I pay my bills and comes due before I pay the next month. So mid month, I pay a minimum payment to Dell to keep it on time. Then, on the first of the next month, I payed the balance. Around 500.00 and some change.

Done deal, right?

Well, I log on mid month and see that it's payed in full and I now have 3 accounts that all have a zero balance.

THEN...............

I just got a letter from Dell saying that a reveiw of you account shows late payment activity so my account has been closed.......... Name: huh.gif

WTF????? 3 or 4 months AFTER I paid them OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously? My credit score is 793 this last month. I have done FCR.com since the beggining. I keep a very close eye on our credit. This is really gonna piss me off if it effects me much. YES, I was late paying. And I know late payment can effect cash flow. (believe me, here on the gulf coast, we are being greatly effected by slow payments right now and it is becoming a pain) But damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was this really necessary? To close my account like this? It's gonna effect my credit score.

Ughhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,,, just kinda venting and wondering if anyone has had some similar problems.

Oh, and Bonnie just had a MasterCard CC reduce her available limit due to low balance and low activity. WTF is going on here???????????

That's almost as good as my Qwest story. When we moved into our new house in December of 2007 we signed up for Qwest "choice" TV cable service. Well it sucked so in February of 2008 we cancel it. Return the HD DVR boxes and get a receipt. Then in May of 2010 I get a bill from Qwest stating that I owe them $11,000 for not returning the equipment and for not paying my bill for the last 27 months....

Luckily my better half keeps every receipt for every bill ever. She still had the receipt from when we turned in the equipment. I barely got this straightned out last week with them. Talk about a nightmare. Thank Mrs. Sooch that she kept that receipt.

We just had the limit on 2 CC's dropped, and 3 CC's completely canceled. The only reason was due to lack of credit history (22 & 23). The 2 with lowered limits were the only one's with balances.

Thanks government, once again you're helping nobody. Oh, our scores are 750+.

PQ it's a mad world and getting weirder.

I get my Discover bill and it shows a late payment a late fee and interested added on. We never pay interest on our credit cards because we pay them off every month. My wife pays them on line through our bank. So I call Discover Card and they find the missing payment of almost $500.00 applied to not my account but her account which has a $24.00 balance every month. No more no less. The bank statement shows my Discover card paid on time in the correct amount. Give me a break. The Discover rep says after it is all fixed to call customer service and make sure the interest and late fee are removed. My wife calls customer service and is told she can not speak with customer service until the account is current. Are you kidding me?

I think the government has the credit companies running scared. I hope your Dell situation gets fixed to your satisfaction. Good luck.

We had a similar problem with Dell at Christmas (availability, so we went with a business account), well they kept pushing the delivery date back and back, so we had to cancel and went with different laptop (It was a gift)...Then, in March we were billed for the laptop that was cancelled before Christmas when they delayed it....What a hassle that was to get fixed

My last personal laptop was ordered back when the colors first came out. I ordered a pink one and was willing to wait. Got an email that it was delayed another 3 weeks. No problem. Had it scheduled to deliver to our MI house and I was in Toronto for a few days...I get home and there are 3 delivery notices on the door and the laptop was sent back....All this a couple days after they alerted me that there was a delay

They have gone WAY downhill and my next laptop will NOT be a Dell!

Nothing to really fix on my account. Basicaly, they closed it because of the late payment. I don't need the account because we have two other ones. I just don't want it to effect my credit score. (Not that I'll use the damn credit score) I know the late payment wouldn't go on there, but the closed account will. Plus, when an account is closed, the reason for closing it goes down with it. And I paid the damn account in full BEFORE they closed it.

Oh, and my laptop has had THREE hard drives replaced. All under warranty...what a hassle.

Current desktop hard drive failed in the first year as well.

We were always loyal to Dell, but I am so done with them

I have no problem with Dell equipment other than all the pre-spam shi* they load on them.

But I am finished with them after this. I'll leave the other two accounts open and just never use them again. I'm sure they will close them too after a while. But one of them has been non-active for at least two years, so maybe they won't.

Pay 1500.00 off in 3 months and close the account because the second payment was a week late? That's fine. I won't buy any more Dell.

YES. I was late with the 24.00 payment (or whatever it was) But I made the payment with 600.00 extra and finished it the next month.

Kinda like getting a speeding ticket for 1 mile over the speed limit. Ya, it's still speeding, but damn..............

Unless you've had the account for a long time, it won't make much of a dent in your credit score. Part of the score tabs how long the account was open. If it was only a few months, it's nothing to worry about, especially if you're near 800 already.

My Sears and BP accounts are currently, and have been, $0 for quite sometime. But they stay in the system because I opened them in 1985. Helps the old credit score.

You financed *through* Dell? You mad, mad fool!

I learned not to do that the hard way -- by using them once (and only once). I was military at the time and ordered a $3,000 laptop. When I got it, I was paying the payments manually, each month. However, since there was a possibility of my deploying overseas, I asked about their auto-pay feature.

The guy told me what to do and I did it when I actually had orders to deploy. Well, cut to the deployment, my 'house sitter' kept answering their calls to my apartment asking to speak with me. She'd say that I wasn't available and wouldn't be for some time and they'd need to give her the message to pass to me. They kept refusing until she finally shouted "Look B****, he's in a COMBAT ZONE halfway around the WORLD. If you want to talk to him, tell ME what it's about or you won't hear from him for MONTHS."

Needless to say, they gave her the gist of the problem to give to me. Turns out, the guy I talked for "forgot" to tell me I was supposed to be paid one month ahead for the auto-pay thing to work. So, while I sat overseas, my bill went unpaid.

But they *did* cancel the late fees because they realized they were the stupid ones.

Well, not to mention the high ass interest you get charged. If you're not gonna pay off Dell fairly quickly, it's cheaper to just put it on a credit card.

Get this............. with a credit score of 793, it was still 19.9% interest.

I needed the business account to get the computers by Christmas though.

I hadn't planned to pay mine off immediately, but when I returned from 'over there' with my 'deployment money,' I wrote them a single check and said "there, now get bent and don't ever call me again."

I was actually an IBM laptop guy....We had Dells - over 500 in use at SC Johnson....they got too hot - LOTS of issues, and I made the mistake of letting my son spend $500 on a inspiron 1525, not that baby gets HOT!!!! ....went to IBM's which were nearly perfect, and HP's.

Mine was an inspiron (I think), but it was definitely high-end since it ran me $3K. It fought like a trooper for a good 4 or 5 years before it finally started to go on me.

I might buy Dell again, but I'm using a credit card or cash next time. No way will I trust their finance department again.

PQ, Dell did something similar to me when I purchased an XPS from them. I had 30days from time of purchase to make my first payment, 15 days in I get a call from their account services trying to charge me an outrageous late fee for not making a payment yet.

After talking to 5+ outsourced telephone operators I was able to get them to remove the charge, still had to make a payment well before the 30 days. After that I made every payment by phone and had confirmation numbers, person's name, and their supervisors name.

Needless to say I will no longer be buying from them using financing service
