For my carshows.. STROBES!

Led Whelen Vertex strobes in the DRL's and the Kitt light in the mailslot..

I ordered another pair of the Vertex for the Turn Signal spot. The exterior will be complete soon! :-)

$68 a piece shipped. They are law enforcement grade.. so no worrying about them going out and they are good LED's so no melting down the lights either. :-) Whelen ROCKS!

Hey, these look fantastic.

How did you wire them up? There's four wires coming out of the vertex bulbs, red, black, green, and white. Since these don't require a power supply like the old strobe tubes did, I am a little concerned about wiring up more than two and having them all coordinated. The red and black wires are self-explanatory, but the green and white are part of this new "no power supply" feature. I've already figured out the white wire goes to a momentary switch, but how do you hook up, say, 10 of these and make sure you've got half the lights on phase 1 and the other half on phase 2, exactly how you want it?

When you get the second pair in, let me know how it works out

very easy to wire up... black(ground) Red (sometimes with whelen the hot wire is the color of the LED) Green (sync wire to make lightheads flash at the same time phase 1 or alternating phase2) White (Flash pattern selector)

i always start out on the bench before the install by hooking it up to a 12v power source Red + black - the light head will turn on take the white wire and hold it to the + source the light will come on solid and will put the module back to the first pattern so you can get all the heads flashing the same. All of them like this will flash together at once. if you want to alternate between the heads you need to set one to phase 2 by tapping the white wire from one head to the + source once for about a second then solder or crimp the green wires together that will ensure they are sync'd .... i have 10 of these on my plowtruck and 4 tir3 led heads and you sure as hell can not miss me coming

i'm also thinkin about putting 10 in the camaro soon ... 4 in the tails 2 in the reverse 2 in the headlights 2 in the turn signals... they always tell you to match the color of the LED to the lense too ie.. red LED in the tails Amber LED in the turns Clear/white LED in the headlights and reverse

From what I've read, it's better to only put a colored strobe in a housing if the housing lense is clear. If the housing has an amber or red lense, then it's better to use a clear strobe, because having a red strobe behind a red lense will significantly dim the light output. Same with an amber strobe behind an amber lense. And obviously you wouldn't want to stick a blue strobe behind a red or amber lense

I am also considering the clear tubes in the 4 taillights, 2 backup lights, but in front I'm thinking 2 in the fog lights and 2 in the turn signals. I don't think any hide-a-way strobe tube would look all that great in an RS headlight housing...

Now I just need to find a good 12v power supply for my workbench

Question: Have you found a good drill bit to get a 1" hole for these that doesn't end up leaving a bunch of powder inside the housing?

comparing Tubes and lightheads is like comparing apples and oranges ..you can do it all day but at the end of the day you dont get anywhere ... that out of the way i was told by a whelen tech support advisor that the light from an LED head behind the same color lense will appear brighter than a clear lighthead behind the same for example red lense of a tail light... and vertex heads arent a 1/2" high with about 6 (i believe) LED's inside its globe

i just use a 1" hole saw an air compressor or a vacuum works wonders when ur getting everything out ...
